Job Description

We are looking to hire an experienced editorial designer to help shape the way The Economist appears to our readers. The role will include helping with concepts for the weekly cover package, layouts and managing visual content across print and digital products in our offices in central London.

More specifically we are looking for someone who will work alongside the cover designer and the Creative Director to integrate how the weekly cover package is displayed in both print and digital channels. The job involves commissioning illustrations and helping to manage pages from start to finish to our weekly cadence. But to also bridge the gap between digital developers and how the content appears on the app and the website. The graphics team works closely with editors, picture editors as well as the data team, digital product and social media teams. You’ll be hands-on with work on all our flagship products.

You should also demonstrate a keenness to learn how to get the most from a modern editorial production system. Recognise how the content requirements change from the printed page to our digital channels using an efficient process to achieve our tight deadlines.

We will be looking for someone with a demonstrable track record of news media design, excellent communication skills, an attention to detail, operational efficiency with a healthy respect for deadlines.

If you are looking for a role where you can learn, experiment and work with a team of dedicated professionals and are eager to help shape and improve The Economist experience for readers, then we’d like to hear from you.
