Job Description

An exciting and varied opportunity for an experienced, managerial-first, content & editorial leader has arisen at Notion, the dynamic Gen-Z media/publishing business.

This role will be a generalist who can work across the core departments and pillars, setting objectives and ensuring all departments are working towards the same goals, under the direction of the Creative Director/Managing Director.

The ideal candidate will have proven editorial skills, experience in editorial and project management and execution, and an interest in the commercial aspects of traditional and hybrid publishing models. Whilst this role will be leadership-led, the candidate won’t be phased getting stuck in operationally from time-to-time and working collectively as part of a small team in an exciting independent business.

Who are we?

Notion is a category leading Gen-Z music-focussed brand, editorial publisher & curated platform of original content, new tunes, exclusive interviews, and the latest happenings in style & culture.

Our digital destinations and bi-annual print editions are a platform for breaking pioneering talent, while Notion’s commercial hub — Studio Notion — builds bridges between brands and the music business. At the same time Notion’s live music agenda mixes bespoke music happenings, with carefully curated festival level events.

With one ear to the ground, Notion is dedicated to creating space for contemporary culture, showcasing the freshest faces in music and beyond like you’ve never seen them before.

Here’s the top line

Overall, this role will lead the wider team to operationalise the vision of the Creative Director/Managing Director, whilst acting as the bridge between the company directors and the businesses functions.

This will be done by having a wide insight to the running’s of a similar sized content & editorial-first media/publishing business, as well as setting and executing the objectives and strategies for Notion across Print, Digital, Social, Commercial and Agency.

The ideal candidate must have a key understanding of the core departments and pillars:

Editorial – proven previous experience in writing, commissioning, planning, and publishing, potentially earlier on in your career.

Production – a deep understanding of how editorial & content production works and best practices across print, digital, social, and experiential.

Creative – an ability to ideate in a modern, ideally social-first environment, and execute creativity across various levels and budgets.

Operations – a key focus, and in turn passion, for managing people and developing and executing workflows and processes to aid productivity and success.

Commercial – an enthusiasm about how commercial and partnerships integrate into content & editorial, with an ability to encourage non-commercial team members to be excited about commercial.
