Job Description

Apartamento Publishing is looking for an Assistant Editor to work across the full range of Apartamento publications, including the magazine and books, online stories and social media, as well as the occasional task related to our fledgling venture, The Natural Wine Company. Above all, you must have a strong understanding of the Apartamento editorial voice and the ability to apply this vision to all Apartamento content, while working closely with both the deputy editor and editor. This is a full-time role ideally based in Barcelona, but for the right candidate we would also consider remote work.

ROLE

- Edit interviews, essays, and short stories for print and online, working on the angle and structure of each piece, chasing up extra material where needed, fact checking, and also verifying spelling and grammar

- Carry out translations into English

- Assist in preparing short copy, indexes, credits for Apartamento publications, with a view to eventually contributing longer pieces

- Write copy for both Apartamento and The Natural Wine Company social media accounts

- Assist in general production: following up with authors, organising transcriptions, requesting usage rights

SKILLS

- Must be a native English speaker, and a second language is strongly preferred

- First-rate writing and grammar skills, with demonstrable experience in journalism or writing, whether it’s a portfolio or specific work history

- Commitment to factual accuracy and ability to conduct background research where needed

- Understanding of how to work with different authors, helping to shape different forms of content

- Understanding of Apartamento’s voice and desire to keep developing it across different mediums

- Strong organisation and communication skills, the ability to work closely with other members of a small team while also being able to work independently and make proactive decisions

- A broad knowledge of contemporary culture, design, architecture, food and wine is essential, plus an appreciation of different forms of media and literature
