Job Description

Fare magazine and its parent publisher, Fare Folk, are looking for a new full-time Editorial & Project Assistant.

Fare Folk is a small creative agency that produces forward-driven and thoughtfully researched content and publications at the intersection of food and culture. Using food as a vehicle for storytelling, Fare Folk adds depth and diversity to a modern market that is overburdened and overstimulated by quick hits and top lists. For us, food is a way to impart a sense of place, to understand rich traditions, techniques, and deep personal memories.

Fare Folk’s major output is the beautiful city-focused print magazine, Fare, and it has produced fourteen beautiful issues since its debut in 2017. However, as the third member of a small core team, you would be expected to work not only on Fare, but also in a supporting role across all our projects. As we are a close-knit team, it’s important that any addition to our team has a bright and easy-going personality. Our ideal candidate understands our ethos, values, and interests, won’t hesitate to provide their own insight and input, and bring this approach to whatever project they’re working on.

The full responsibilities of this role will be tailored to the unique skillset of the successful candidate, but any applicants must be skilled copy editors and copywriters, and we will look for examples of both when making our final hiring decision. However, there are a number of desirable additional skills which we cannot possibly expect a candidate to have –all– of, but which would make an individual stand out, and for whom we’d be willing to adapt the role somewhat (e.g. significant experience with marketing, sales, social media, etc).

This is a role for someone who loves creative processes and thinking, team building, independent working, and deep thoughtful content. It is a varied role, and the workload and agenda will change daily and weekly, and over time. There is absolutely room for progression within the agency, and we hope that the successful applicant will see themselves growing as part of the organization.

This is a full-time role (~40 hours) worked from 9am-5pm UK time, however, applicants do not need to be based in the UK: our team works remotely, and we’ll happily consider all remote workers.

The Editorial & Project Assistant’s primary responsibilities will be:

  • Copyediting & copywriting on all editorial projects
  • Assisting with creative research on all editorial projects
  • Managing and creating content for the agency’s social media accounts (for the agency itself, as well as the magazine)
  • Providing project assistance (including general operations and logistics)
  • Helping to manage our webshop and incoming subscriptions
  • Helping to build our magazine subscription base and stockist network globally
  • Helping to build partnerships and collaborate with brands and advertisers around the world
  • Assisting with stockist sales and shop orders

Essential experience for this role:

  • Native fluency in English
  • Professional copyediting experience (or equivalent)
  • Professional copywriting experience (or equivalent)
  • Good communication skills
  • Passion and drive for learning
  • Self-directed and organized approach to workload
  • Experience with most Google Suite apps

Preferable:

  • Based in Europe (but location can be remote)
  • Experience with SEO
  • Experience with marketing/sales
  • An interest in independent print magazines or print design
  • A love of travel that’s informed by cultural exploration
