Job description

Hillside Agency is currently looking for a WordPress developer with a minimum of three years of industry experience. This is a great opportunity for a skilled, ambitious individual who can respond creatively and enthusiastically to a multitude of challenges. The applicant should be confident in taking a web project from start to finish, liaising directly with clients whilst working both independently and as part of a team. The role will be Edinburgh-based with the opportunity to work remotely or hybrid depending on the situation. The position will allow freedom to shape your role within a team of other creatives in a highly regarded agency in the hub of Leith. We’re a small team with all the flexibility, responsibility, and opportunity that goes with it, so working hours and salary are negotiable if you’re the right person for the role.

Required Skills

• Experience in creating bespoke WordPress themes and functionalities via PHP.
• Good overall experience working with HTML5, CSS3, PHP, jQuery, MySQL.
• Site mapping, wire-framing, designing, and developing.
• Creating website prototypes, using Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar.
• Understanding of device and browser compatibility issues.
• Routine maintenance, problem-solving, and improvement of clients' existing websites (including e-commerce websites).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to self-manage projects, timelines, and allocated budgets, as well as work to tight deadlines.

Desirable Extras

• Working knowledge of search engine optimisation best practices.
• Experience in contributing to creative tenders and cost estimates.
• Developing motion graphics in After Effects.
• Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
• Good knowledge of design principles, industry standards, current web design trends & technologies.
• The ability to adapt to new software/applications as required to fulfill the role's responsibilities as outlined above.
• Confidence to share you knowledge and skills with other team members.
