Job Description

In October 2024, Universal Music UK brought together two iconic music labels, Island and EMI Records, to create Island EMI Label Group. The new powerhouse label group is designed to help deliver our strategy to support artists from the wider Universal family, linking closely with US label partners REPUBLIC Corps, and Interscope Capitol Labels Group.

Blending these labels brings Island's unique ethos of launching pioneering and influential global artists such as Bob Marley, U2, Amy Winehouse, Hozier and The Last Dinner Party, with EMI's illustrious history and roster of diverse acts from the UK, including Sir Elton John, Queen and Metallica.

The label group is also home to a star-studded US and international roster which includes artists such as Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Drake, Lewis Capaldi, Noah Kahan and Chappell Roan.

Role Overview

Studio Island — Island EMI’s in-house creative studio — is looking for a mid-level Content Commissioner with impeccable taste levels, cultural fluency, and production expertise to support our artist campaigns with standout content.

This is a mid-level role focused on the production and delivery of content. Ideal for someone who thrives in bringing creative ideas to life, managing multiple stakeholders, and ensuring output is high-quality, on-brand, and on-budget.

You’ll be expected to contribute creatively, stay on top of content trends, and bring proactive ideas to the table.

Key Responsibilities

• Commission and oversee the production of a variety of content formats, including music videos, short-form video, BTS, live sessions, interviews etc.

• Brief and manage external creatives (e.g. directors, videographers, editors).

• Oversee production workflows, ensuring timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met.

• Work cross-functionally with internal teams (Marketing, Digital, A&R) to align content with campaign goals.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with artist management.

• Ensure all content is artist-appropriate, culturally relevant, creatively excellent, and optimised for each platform.

• Stay connected to the wider creative landscape, bringing in new talent, ideas, and formats.

Skills & Experience

• Passion for music, pop culture, and visual storytelling.

• Experience in content production, commissioning within music, media, or culture.

• Experience managing creatives and multiple projects simultaneously.

• Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Confidence in managing production budgets and timelines.

• Deep knowledge of all social platforms and an understanding of how content performs across them.

• A collaborative, team-first mindset with a solutions-driven approach.

• Ability to creatively interpret briefs and oversee execution to a high standard.

• Working knowledge of Adobe Suite.

• Awareness of lighting, framing, and composition in video and photography.

• Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed for shoots.

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)

• Hands-on creative skills such as photography, directing, shooting or editing.

When applying, please ensure you provide a portfolio or links to previous work that demonstrates your experience and creative eye.
