Job Description
Overview
We Mean This is a small but mighty design and branding practice that helps launch and grow businesses. Our clients are mix of large, often media industry clients e.g. National Geographic, Discovery Networks (working on infographics, digital ads, booklets, brand guidelines) and SMEs / start-ups (working on websites, reports, and brand identities). We love working with purpose-driven clients and are selective about who we work with.
We are looking for a Junior Designer to join us on a part-time basis (3-4 days a week) working remotely. If the candidate lives locally then a hybrid model with some time in the office in Winchester could be discussed.
You would be working on a wide range of projects in digital and branding from concept to completion. The team currently consists of a design director, a senior designer and a junior designer/front-end developer.
About you
Hopefully you will come with an inquisitive mind, an eagerness to learn, and an innate desire to create good work. We always start each project by thoroughly researching ‘why’ (why does this project matter / why should anyone care etc.) to really understand the creative problem we are solving. Ideally you are a conceptual thinker and love creating innovative ways to solve problems. Hopefully you love the craft, even though 95% of what we do is digital. We would hope that you are pro-active, not afraid to try new things and excited to get stuck in.
What we are looking for
- BA (or equivalent) in graphic design* and ideally some industry experience
- Fluency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Adobe XD (or Figma)
- A considered approach to design
- Strong typography skills
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines
- The willingness to listen to feedback and use it to improve
- A problem-solving mindset
*or 3 years + graphic design industry experience if not
In addition – experience in these areas will be beneficial:
- Design for social media, or experience working on Social Media campaigns
- Google Analytics / SEO knowledge
Typical activities
The specific details of the role will vary depending on each project, but common activities include:
- Producing elegant and effective designs for all media
- Designing websites
- Designing brand identities
- Researching (competitors, trends, ideas etc.)
- Liaising effectively with clients and other team members
- Supporting the Senior Designer through every stage of a project
- Keeping the WMT website and social media channels up to date with recent work
If you are interested please send us your CV, portfolio (or a link to it) and a short paragraph about what you think you will bring to We Mean This that sets you apart from other applicants.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, age, gender, gender identity or expression, social background, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, or disability.
The candidate must be able to carry out the work remotely, using their own computer.
Salary
£24-27k pro rata dependent on experience.
