Job Description

How&How are looking for a Design Director (Brand) to organise, inspire and lead our growing team of graphic, motion and digital designers.

On projects and accounts you’ll work closely with the creative and production teams to lead the design of brands, user interfaces and campaigns. You’ll be at home creating immaculate presentations which tell inspiring stories, and bring clients along with the Studio’s collective ideas and visions.

You will nurture, challenge and get the most out of your design team and be a source of knowledge and inspiration to them too. You will be the creative engine driving our projects forward—and be as comfortable designing as you are directing or mentoring.

Topline: we’re looking for a Design Director who wants to make our Studio stronger, and believes their best work is still ahead of them. This person will chase big ideas, agonise over the details and have a kind and generous heart.

Salary London: £68,000 + Bonus Options

What you’ll do:

  • Be responsible for the development of our designers—working alongside them to get the most out of them through mentoring and showing them how it’s done
  • Collaborate with strategists, writers, producers and the creative team to deliver work that is bold, conceptual and different
  • Be ultra confident in leading and delivering presentations of your team’s work to clients, inspiring them to make creative leaps
  • Relish diving into any stage of the creative process to assist, encourage or recover the work of others

Job Requirements

What we’re after:

  • Currently a Design Director or an experienced Senior Designer looking to take things up a gear
  • 8+ years industry experience
  • A talent spotter with strong relationships with other freelance designers and contributors
  • Have experience creating brands for digital-first businesses
  • Be a self-driven leader with a curious mind and zero ego
  • Be a font of technical design knowledge with a keen eye for detail and a drive for creative perfection in yourself and others
  • At ease with the buck stopping with you
  • Have your finger on the pulse of current trends in the world of design / art / fashion / creativity and bring that information and enthusiasm for popular culture into the Studio everyday
  • Know when to stand up for your creative vision and when to support the opinions of your team or clients

— Additional tools are a big plus: motion, code, illustration, etc

— Curious about brands and the positive impact they can have on the world

— Interested in more than just design

— Ambitious self-starter who can thrive in ambiguity

— Comfortable engaging with the strategic dimension of our work

— Able to get under the skin of clients issues, strong on content as well as visuals

— Able to build personal relationships and trust with clients

— Articulate, confident and assertive in presenting work

— Strong creative instincts and willingness to push further through experimentation

What we offer:

  • Salary of £68,000 (London)
  • 9 Day Fortnight with every other Friday off
  • 28 Day additional Holiday allocation (including Bank Holidays)
  • €1,000/ year Skills & Training Allowance
  • €1,000/ year Work Together Allowance (trips between London and Lisbon)
  • Macbook Pro setup provided
  • Based from the London / Lisbon office with up to 50% WFH
  • Pro Bono Environmental Studio Projects
  • Transparent Tiered Salary System
  • 6 Month Reviews with Bonus Opportunities
  • Resident Second Home Membership with permanent desk in Lisbon / London / Hollywood with all the perks
  • Second Home Membership access to cultural programme of talks, networking and social events
  • 2 Week Remote Working Opportunities (timezone dependent)
  • We’re currently working towards B-Corp Status and hope to complete in late 2022 / early 2023
