Midweight Interior Designer (Retail)

  • Salary: Up to £45,000, dependent on experience
  • Location: Central London
  • Working pattern: Hybrid: 2 days studio, 3 days from home
  • Software: AutoCAD, SketchUp
  • Sector: Retail, Leisure, Hospitality, Heritage, Workplace

About the Studio

This is a consultancy with proper breadth. Since 2010, they've been working across retail, hospitality, heritage, workplace, and travel — designing environments for some genuinely recognisable names across the UK and beyond. The client list spans high street brands, specialist retailers, cultural institutions, and international operators. The work is strategic as much as it is aesthetic: they start with the customer journey and build everything outward from there.

The team is experienced, collaborative, and quietly proud of what they do. This isn't a studio chasing trends for the sake of it — it's a place that invests in understanding a client's business before it touches a pen. The result is design that actually works. Commercially, operationally, and visually.

About the Role

This is a strong opportunity for a midweight interior designer who's ready to work across a genuinely varied portfolio. You'll be contributing to projects from concept through to technical delivery — across retail environments, hospitality spaces, heritage destinations, and more — with real creative input at each stage.

If you've been working in-house and found yourself craving more variety, more creative challenge, or simply the chance to work across multiple sectors and briefs at once, this is the kind of studio where that instinct tends to flourish. The work moves fast, the briefs are wide-ranging, and there's no shortage of interesting problems to solve.

Your days will look something like this

  • Develop interior design concepts from initial brief through to technical documentation
  • Produce detailed AutoCAD drawings and SketchUp models to a high standard
  • Work across multiple live projects simultaneously, spanning retail, hospitality, heritage, and workplace sectors
  • Collaborate closely with senior designers and project leads on client presentations and design reviews
  • Contribute to spatial planning, material selection, and FF&E specification
  • Translate brand and customer journey thinking into resolved interior environments
  • Support project delivery by coordinating with suppliers, contractors, and client teams
  • Bring fresh ideas to the table — and the technical rigour to back them up

You might be our perfect match if...

  • You have solid midweight experience in interior design, ideally with exposure to retail, hospitality, or commercial environments
  • Your AutoCAD and SketchUp skills are strong and you're confident producing technical drawings to a professional standard
  • You think about design strategically — customer journey, brand experience, and spatial logic matter to you as much as aesthetics
  • You're comfortable working across multiple projects and adapting your thinking to different sectors and briefs
  • You're a self-starter who manages their own time well — especially important in a hybrid working environment
  • You're looking for more variety, more creative ownership, or simply a broader canvas than your current role offers
  • A portfolio that shows considered, well-resolved work across different project types will go a long way here

Why this one

  • Up to £45,000 DOE
  • Genuine hybrid working — 2 days in studio, 3 from home
  • A portfolio of work that spans retail, heritage, hospitality, travel, and workplace — no two briefs are the same
  • Clients you'll actually recognise, including household names and cultural institutions
  • A studio that leads with strategic thinking, not just aesthetics — so your ideas have to stand up
  • A collaborative team with over a decade of experience and a track record that speaks for itself
