Atelier Works has just had its 30th birthday. It's two creative partners have served their time in publishing and then as assistants to leading figures in the UK design fraternity. Our early career grounding has stood us in good stead; we have seen off two recessions and a pandemic, collected numerous design accolades and cemented some very long-term working relationships with some prestigious clients.
This job opportunity is for a designer to gain skills through close collaborative working with one of the Atelier partners. It will sometimes entail working on out of the ordinary projects.
Finding the right person to sit beside one of our partners is a particular challenge. We would like to hear from a designer who cares about the craft of design; the development of a concept, attending to detailed refinements and to the accurate implementation of a signed-off solution.
Atelier's design interests are niche but fascinating – so your software skills would need to be a core strength and interest. Can you colour balance accurately for super-sized environmental graphics, merge data by linking Excel with InDesign for print work, use Fontographer to revive a long-lost typeface? Have you ever used SketchUp for a wayfinding project or worked in 3D software to create a bas-relief for a coin? Do you have the nous to sequence a digital presentation for a conference or create a website wireframe? Are you exceptionally well organised and have the patience to work on the miniature iterations of a postage stamp?
Design in these formats requires a 'can-do' attitude and if you can't, then you must be self motivated to find out how.
This is a permanent full-time position, based in South London, starting immediately.
