Job Description

Location: London-based, in-studio

Reports to: Studio Manager

Start Date: ASAP

Role Summary:

We are looking for a highly capable Creative Studio Assistant to support the day-to-day operations, creative flow, and logistical efficiency of Jordan Hemingway Studio. This is a hybrid role — not a traditional photography assistant nor studio assistant. You will be at the center of a high-functioning, high-profile creative studio, ensuring equipment readiness, shoot prep, studio operations, creative support, research, and digital archiving all flow smoothly.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong photography or motion background (either technically or academically) with some experience supporting a creative principal in a production, personal or professional assistant capacity. You must be highly organised, proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, visually-led environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Studio Operations & Equipment Management

  • Manage and maintain all studio photography, film and lighting equipment: inventory, cleaning, servicing, charging, prep
  • Ensure equipment is ready for location or studio shoots including test-shoots, pack-downs, and returns
  • Oversee file management systems and physical/digital archiving of imagery, negatives, and hard drives
  • Set up and manage the studio for shoot days (cleaning, layouts, surface prep, refreshments, music, etc.)
  • Coordinate with external suppliers for equipment hire, deliveries, and returns
  • Keep the studio space tidy, safe, and functional at all times

2. Creative Research & Archiving

  • Conduct creative visual research for upcoming shoots, campaigns, treatments, and exhibitions
  • Source imagery for moodboards, references, and artist presentations
  • Manage image library, personal archive and digital asset management system (including negatives, contact sheets, scans, drive labeling and cataloguing)
  • Maintain Dropbox/Google Drive/Server structure and backups

3. Photography/Directors Assisting for Jordan Hemigway

  • Serve as an extra set of hands on set, assisting with lighting tests, notes, or on-the-go needs
  • Provide basic personal support (coffee runs, transport coordination, drop-offs/pickups)
  • Communicate professionally with external collaborators on behalf of Jordan when needed
  • Build trust to act as a gatekeeper and filter low-priority noise from key decision-making

4. Administrative & Logistical Support

  • Under the instruction of the studio manager, schedule bookings and liaise with production coordinators for shoot planning
  • Coordinate travel, bookings, couriers, and errands as required for Jordan and key studio projects
  • Process expenses, assist with receipts, invoices, and small purchases for the studio
  • Maintain studio stock (paper, batteries, film, tape, stationery, etc.)

5. Personal Assisting to Jordan Hemingway

  • Book travel, drivers, personal couriers, restaurant reservations, and accommodations
  • Maintain personal shopping needs — including equipment, wardrobe, or home supplies
  • Support Jordan on set as a trusted right hand: from equipment to coffee to creative intuition
  • Ensure Jordan has what he needs to perform at his best mentally, physically, and creatively
  • Offer admin support across various life tasks, e.g. parking permits, appointments

6. Administrative & Studio Support

  • Handle receipts, light bookkeeping, and expense reconciliation for both studio and personal
  • Coordinate small purchases, invoicing support, and vendor relationships
  • Track freelance bookings and intern availability alongside the studio manager
  • Maintain studio stock and basic hospitality — coffee, drinks, clean workspace
  • Liaise with contractors for studio maintenance and renovations alongside the studio manager

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Photography or Motion experience essential: You understand lenses, light, camera formats, file types, and archiving
  • Some PA or EA experience preferred: You’ve supported a principal or senior figure and understand discretion and initiative
  • Calm under pressure, fast-moving but detail-obsessed
  • Clear communicator, visually literate, emotionally intelligent
  • Highly organised and able to handle both short-term tasks and long-term systems
  • Comfortable on set and in-studio, with a proactive, make-it-happen attitude
  • Tech savvy —InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Dropbox, Capture One, Google Drive, Mac OS
  • Versed in image retouch and research sensibilities
  • Bonus: darkroom or print scanning experience, creative writing or deck-making skills

Growth & Development

This role offers close mentorship with a globally recognised photographer and filmmaker. You’ll learn firsthand how high-level campaigns, editorial shoots, and film projects are developed and delivered. There is significant opportunity for growth into roles across production, post, or creative research.
