East End Press is a design studio in Glasgow, creating beautiful, sustainable and joyful homeware, stationery and decorations that are screen printed by hand on recycled cotton paper in Jaipur, India. Our growing range of products, including our best selling printed sewn garlands, greetings cards and more, is stocked in stores around the world as well as selling directly through our website.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Artworker to join our small team. In this role, you will primarily work through our archive of products to digitise their print artwork and production specifications. This will include working from digital sketches and illustrations, as well as referencing the physical products. Our ideal candidate will have the vision, knowledge and technical ability to transpose these references into watertight artwork packs. In addition, you will be responsible for developing packaging for the products, setting content and creating dielines that can be managed and achieved within our suppliers’ production processes.
In preparing files for production, you will play a key role in ensuring the consistency and accuracy of artwork, adhering to our brand identity and ethos. As required, you may be asked to develop product packaging or new product artwork closely collaborating with the Creative Director , Product Manager and Graphic Designer to ensure accuracy and quality is maintained across all artwork and products. You should be comfortable using Pantone colour codes and colour matching from ink and paper swatches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Display knowledge on the optimal ways to transpose sketches and illustrations into polished, print-ready artwork suitable for both spot colour screen printing and digital printing.
- Following the brand identity and packaging formats already developed, create primary packaging for products. Includes development of accurate dielines and accurate application of copy, barcodes and other mandatory information.
- Prepare final artwork for production, ensuring that files are correctly formatted, exported and aligned with specifications.
- Use your knowledge of CMYK, Pantone, and other colour systems to ensure colour accuracy and consistency across print materials and digital assets.
- Prepare files for print, ensuring proper use of colour profiles and breakdowns, bleed, trim, and resolution.
- Proof artwork to ensure all files are correct before sending them to print and review print proofs prior to production as required.
- Produce physical and visual mockups when required.
- Offer insight into how rough concepts may be developed into viable new products.
- Maintain an organised file structure for artwork and project assets to ensure easy access and version control.
- Meet production deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Excellent attention to detail with solid technical print skills and understanding.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis on Adobe Illustrator.
- Solid understanding of CMYK, Pantone, and RGB colour systems with the ability to convert between different formats for both print and digital projects.
- Experience in creating dielines for packaging and understanding of print production processes including file preparation, resolution, bleed, and colour profiles.
- Experience with product packaging design, including layout, typography, and imagery selection.
- Experience created scaled diagrams.
- Knowledge of typography, layout principles, and branding consistency.
- Ability to prioritise between multiple tasks, strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate.
- Ability to handle constructive feedback and make adjustments to designs as needed.
