Job Description

About us

Applied Information Group is an award-winning, specialist consultancy focused on wayfinding, placemaking, and information design. We help businesses and public agencies improve the experience and understanding of spaces for their customers, visitors, and citizens.

We work internationally with leading clients, helping people navigate and enjoy complex environments through clear, intelligent information systems. Our projects span workplaces, transportation systems, museums, healthcare environments, campuses, and city environments.

From our offices in London, San Francisco, Vancouver, Dubai, and Seoul, we design signs, maps, screens, and digital applications—delivering everything from brand guidelines and industrial design specifications to governance strategies and smartphone apps.

About the role

As part of our continued growth in the United States and Canada, we are seeking a Senior Wayfinding Planner to lead the development and delivery of complex wayfinding strategies and solutions for both interior and exterior environments.

This role requires strong research and analytical skills to navigate complexity, develop insight, and translate ideas into clear and effective solutions. You will work closely with design teams to develop and implement wayfinding strategies, balancing competing demands while supporting project and client deadlines.

As a senior member of the firm, you will also play a key role in growing the US business, working alongside company leadership to secure new clients and projects. You will lead projects, contribute to winning new work, mentor junior colleagues, and help shape the future direction of Applied’s planning team.

The role will require domestic and international travel for location-based working, project meetings, and presentations. You will be based in our Bay Area office, with flexible working arrangements, including home working.

What we are looking for

  • This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in wayfinding or a related discipline such as transportation planning, urban planning, architecture, master planning, urban design, or information design. We are looking for candidates with:
  • 5–10 years of experience in wayfinding, transportation, transit operations, urban planning, architecture, master planning, or urban design.
  • A relevant bachelor's degree (e.g., planning, civil engineering, urban design, architecture, geography, or design). AICP membership is a plus but not required.
  • Proven experience advancing projects related to transportation, land use, architecture, movement, or user experience.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, either through public consultation, market research, or similar processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear, concise, and accurate report writing, proposal preparation, and confident meeting facilitation.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools, including Google Workspace, Slack, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience working with BIM or Revit models, GIS platforms, spatial data, project management software (e.g., MS Project, Merlin), or related digital planning tools would be an advantage.
  • PMP, PE, or similar professional credentials are welcome but not required.
  • Multilingual applicants are encouraged, particularly Spanish speakers.

Applied has B Corp certification. We are fully committed to advancing people and society while looking after the planet. We are looking for people who share our perspective.

Applied is committed to creating a fair, representative and inclusive environment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability or age.

If you are interested, but unsure whether you meet every requirement, we would still encourage you to get in touch.
