Job Description

Who we are

Candour means to be open, honest and frank: that's the starting point for us. We're a small team and are passionate about the films that we make and the clients we serve. We are always looking to learn, improve and adapt - we think that is the way that we can continue to build a sustainable business and make great films.

About the company

Candour officially started in 2014 in the front room of a student house in Falmouth. We stretched ourselves creatively as much as possible, taking on everything from web projects to graphic design, photography and film. More recently, in our pursuit of doing one thing well we have honed in on filmmaking.

Candour has three aims; (1) to create impactful films that speak for brands and draw focus onto stories, (2) to facilitate and inspire the creative development of its people, (3) and to do these things; collaboratively, graciously and honestly.

Our Office

We're based out of a sweet studio in Bermondsey in the old Biscuit Factory 🍪 We boast nice freshly made coffee, a lovely velvet teal sofa and a growing family of indoor plants. Sunsets are amazing and our view looks over a few train lines if you're into that kind of thing 🚂

Our Kit

- Our main camera is an Arri Alexa Mini so you'd be working with some tasty footage 🎥

- Our b-camera is the Blackmagic Design Pocket 6K 📷

- We use Davinci Resolve to edit and colour 🎨

- We use Apple computers...but who cares 🍏

About the role

We’re a small team, so being flexible is really key to how we work, with flexibility comes variety. Variety is the most consistent thing about our work. Short docs, commercials, brand films and more. There will be plenty of opportunity to develop. It won’t all be thrilling (at least we’re up front about that 😊 ) but making the most of every edit/film is important to us.

We will expect you to add immediate value through the skills that you have at your disposal. We also want you to be willing to improve individually, constantly investing in yourself, and contribute to the wider improvement of the team and the films that we make. We’re committed to making sure this is possible in amongst the everyday work.

Taste is important to us and will be something that we look for in these applications. We want every member of our team to be able to input creatively, so give us a really good idea of what you like, the editor that you are and the editor that you want to be.

We’d love to find someone who is committed to becoming a great editor (if they aren’t already).

- Competitive salary - eek what a horrible phrase. In all honesty, we'd like to approach this conversation relationally. Our priorities are; the sustainability of Candour and it's finances, our employees life circumstances and being fairly rewarded for the value you add to our business and clients. We will absolutely broach this subject with transparency and clarity in interviews.

- You’ll get first-hand experience being part of an agile, creative company

- 23 days holiday + bank holidays

- Studio is closed between Christmas and New Year

Diversity

We believe that our filmmaking is hindered by the relatively narrow range of life experiences that are currently represented in our team. We hope to broaden the diversity of life experience in our team through this process. We want to be clear that this isn't to simply appear diverse, but because we see the true and real value of having a broad perspectives throughout the filmmaking process.
