Fixed-term (13 months) – maternity leave cover

£30,557 per annum

About the role:

The British Museum is offering an exciting opportunity for a Graphic Designer to join its Marketing Design team the Exhibitions department. The main purpose of the role is to develop and create visual approaches to design briefs for the Museum’s marketing materials which can be adapted across a variety of media, print and digital publications, appropriate to the audience and adhering to the Museum’s visual language.

Key areas of responsibility:

Designing graphic solutions for marketing campaigns (including on-site, outdoor/off-site advertising, print and digital), working with the Design and Brand Manager, Lead Graphic Designer and Marketing Managers.

Ensure the Museum’s visual language guidelines are adhered to in all creative executions.

Produce and supply artwork for print, or upload files for digital production, to the highest standards, liaise with external suppliers, and oversee production.

Ensure successful delivery of allocated design projects, handling multiple jobs concurrently, prioritise, report on progress, deliver to deadline and keep costs within set budgets.

Ensure good relationships are maintained and developed.

Contribute to improvements to visual design processes and ongoing development of the Museum’s visual language and guidelines.

Other duties as required and appropriate.

About you:

Education: degree in graphic design.

Specific technical/professional skills & experience: high standard of design skills, showing exceptional and wide-ranging creative solutions, and attention to detail (typographical/page layout); proven ability using InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects – all on Mac hardware; In-depth knowledge of pre-press and print production; experience of digital design for marketing solutions and a willingness to learn and adapt to digital developments in the industry; ability to guide internal clients through a design brief and present design concepts to stakeholders; familiarity with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

Work experience: extensive design experience at mid-weight designer level in: marketing and brand, an arts/publishing consumer environment, studio environment, digital marketing.

Specific managerial skills: ability to work to tight deadlines and keep within budgets; ability to work creatively in a busy environment on several projects simultaneously; strong organisational skills; ability to work with other designers, photographers, illustrators and programmers; bringing creative inspiration to the design team.

Specific interpersonal skills: good interpersonal skills, to deal with a wide variety of Museum staff; problem solver, positive ‘can do’ approach, ability to multi-task, cope under pressure, skilled negotiator, team player, flexible, dependable and ability to manage time and prioritise effectively.
