Job Description

FairPlanet, a global non-profit platform for journalism and activism, is looking to hire a Social Media Manager who will lead all social media content creation and planning across our platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube) and devise a social media strategy for our organisation.

This role is ideal for a candidate who is passionate both about the ins and outs of social media creative content creation and the prospect of uplifting local grassroots voices fighting for human rights and environmental justice.

You will work closely with our editorial team to create on-brand, engaging social media content and develop a plan to grow our community and increase engagement across our social media platforms.

In this role you will:

  • Serve as manager of our Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts, and propose potential other platforms as appropriate.
  • Highlight social media strategy needs and develop short and long term plans for growing FairPlanet’s social media platforms, expanding our reach and increasing engagement with our content.
  • Compose engaging social media posts to communicate our mission and amplify our editorial content in a creative and simple fashion, driving our users to take further action and refer back to our website.
  • Work closely with our editorial team to identify themes, topics and articles covered on the website to be translated into social media content (posts, tweets, etc.).
  • Investigate trending topics in the spheres of human rights, civil rights, and environmental justice in order to inform our social media content plan.
  • Track relevant hashtags and topics trending on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Maintain a content calendar for our social media accounts, tracking relevant milestone dates.
  • Establish and analyse social media performance metrics and monitor progress towards goals, fine-tuning strategies as necessary.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of campaign strategies and use these insights to inform improvement.
  • Model the tone and style of FairPlanet’s social media content based on our grassroots, equitable, solution-oriented journalism and activism, and help promote our organisation as a driver in environmental and human rights digital engagement.
  • Work closely with the Managing Editor to communicate social media needs and manage logistics as needed.
  • Stay abreast of innovative social methodologies and strategies, further your knowledge of trends and best practices, and foster a solid understanding of FairPlanet’s mission and values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

This role is for a candidate who: has a keen interest in social media growth and community management, and generally wants to gain crucial experience in utilising social media to promote humane and just causes.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications: Former experience in social media and strong familiarity with social media platforms required (particularly with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

Experience with Adobe Photoshop (familiarity with other graphic design softwares a plus) and MS Excel.

A BA in journalism, writing, media, marketing, communications or a subject related to media communication is a plus, however we accept candidates based on the merit of their application and enthusiasm for our organisation’s work.

The ideal candidate will have a deep interest in social media and genuinely enjoy using social media platforms across the board and want to learn how to utilise their skills in order to support FairPlanet’s mission.

You will need to be able to work in a team as well as be self-motivated, eager to roll up your sleeves and keen to learn.

Details of work: This is a part time position. You will be working remotely, 4 days per week, 4 hours per day.
