Job Description

About Waggel

Waggel is a UK pet insurance company on a mission to help pets live longer, happier, healthier lives.

We think pet insurance should do more than just sit in a drawer until something goes wrong. So ours earns its keep every day, through 24/7 expert advice, prevention tools and rewards for keeping your pet healthy.

We have big growth goals, and want to grow well; the right customers, at the right cost, who stay with us for their pet’s whole life. This role sits right at the heart of that, creating the emails, ads and campaign creative that help pet owners find us, choose us and stay with us.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Marketing Designer to join our Design team and bring our campaigns to life. You’ll design the creative that powers our growth: emails, paid and organic social, digital ads, landing pages and the odd bit of merch.

This isn’t a ‘send me the brief and I’ll make it pretty’ role. We want a creative thought partner who gets stuck in early, challenges the brief when it needs challenging, and brings ideas to the table. You’ll move quickly, often turning work around in days rather than weeks, and you’ll build smart, reusable templates so that speed never comes at the expense of quality.

You’ll work within Waggel’s brand and will partner closely with our product design, performance marketing, CRM and PR teams.

What you'll do

Campaign and acquisition creative

  • Design creative for paid social, display and partner channels, from first concept through to every size and format
  • Produce organic social assets and lightweight content that keep our feeds fresh and on-brand
  • Optimise creative for each channel, audience and platform, so it looks great and works hard wherever it lands
  • Work with the Performance marketing team to understand what is and isn’t working so you can proactively generate ideas for what to test next
  • Create motion and animated creative wherever it earns its place, across paid, organic, email and landing pages
  • Work with compliance to get creative approved, building regulatory requirements into the work early rather than retrofitting them

Email and CRM design

  • Design engaging, responsive emails across the customer journey, from welcome and onboarding to retention and win-back
  • Work with the CRM team to make sure designs are built correctly, accessible and render well across devices and email clients

Landing pages, merch and beyond

  • Design assets for conversion-focused landing pages, working with the product design and performance marketing teams to test and improve them
  • Build out these designs in our CMS
  • Create merch, print and event materials that people (and pets) genuinely want to use

Templates and scalable systems

  • Build and maintain a library of flexible templates for email, social and ads that make everyday creative quicker to produce
  • Keep design files, assets and libraries organised, so the right assets are always easy to find

Creative thought partner

  • Get involved early in campaign planning, helping shape ideas rather than only executing them
  • Challenge briefs constructively and bring your own ideas for how we can do things better
  • Use performance data to test and iterate on creative, sharing what you learn with the team
  • Balance pace with craft: know when something needs polish and when good and live beats perfect and late

What success looks like (key success metrics)

  • Consistent, distinctive, on-brand creative across every marketing channel
  • Measurable contribution of creative to acquisition and CRM performance, such as click-through, conversion and engagement rates
  • Work delivered on agreed timelines, including quick turnarounds on reactive and always-on activity
  • A well-used template library that cuts the time it takes to produce everyday creative
  • Regular creative testing, with clear learnings feeding into the next round of work
  • The Marketing team sees you as a creative partner who shapes the work, not just a pair of hands

What you'll bring

  • A portfolio that shows strong digital marketing design across email, social, digital ads and ideally landing pages
  • Four or more years as a marketing, digital or brand designer, ideally in-house at a consumer brand or fast-moving scale-up
  • Confidence in the Adobe Creative Suite and Figma, including building component-based templates and translating brand design systems into both slick motion creative and print
  • A good understanding of email design best practice, including responsive layouts, accessibility and the quirks of different email clients
  • Comfort building pages in a CMS, laying out existing components rather than writing code
  • Curiosity about performance: you want to know how your work landed and how to make it better
  • Clear, confident communication, with the willingness to push back and pitch ideas
  • Confidence using AI as part of your workflow, both to work faster on things like variants and resizing, and to generate assets that make it into live work
  • Comfort working in a regulated industry where marketing goes through compliance review (experience in financial services is a bonus, not a must)
  • A soft spot for pets helps too

How to apply

How to apply & the process

We welcome applications from everyone, and we're happy to make adjustments at any stage. Just let us know what you need. We expect the interview process to have 3 rounds:

  • Initial interview with the Head of Design, including a walk-through of your portfolio
  • Practical design task with around two hours of prep, presented to the Head of Design and colleagues from the Design and Marketing teams
  • Culture fit interview with our CMO
  • We aim to move from the first interview to offer within three weeks.

Please reach out to Joe at joe@waggel.co.uk with your cover letter and portfolio for consideration.
