Position Summary

The Head of Design is responsible for developing industry-leading design and communications across varied channels, with an emphasis on digital. They know how to use our agency tools to guide and develop a diverse team of talent, regularly inspiring them through sharing knowledge and skills. The Head of Design is expected to demonstrate inspirational design thinking, sharp creative evaluation skills and have an eye for innovation. They are able to connect with client’s on all levels to build lasting relationships, and use their influence to propose and sell great design. A passionate collaborator, they know how to partner with teams across the agency to get the best from themselves and their team.

Key capabilities

Relationships/Communication

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with clients and agency counterparts;has earned their trust and respect.
  • Regularly engages with the agency team, management, and client partners to ensure on-going communication of client needs and concerns.
  • Acts as an ambassador for DDB and its culture in and outside the agency.

Management and Leadership

  • Proactive in adding and developing skill set, and passing learnings on to others.
  • Seeks ways and offers solutions to improve agency processes and ways of working.
  • Fosters an environment within the design team where members feel empowered to explore,challenge and propose new ideas.
  • Works closely with creative resourcing team on budgeting, timelines, and scheduling
  • Has a leading role in shaping and contributing to agency culture, regularly leading and supporting initiatives.
  • Demonstrates ethical behaviour and good judgement.
  • Effectively mentors/line manages team members, knowing how to utilize our agency tools to provide a clear structure for career development.
  • Provides creative and strategic support for the management team on new business pitches.

Knowledge and skills

  • Establish design & art direction, tone and style of concepts working closely with the ideation team.
  • Proposes and delivers innovative user experience and interface design across digital platforms.
  • Confidently presents ideas, with the skills to debate and defend work both internally and externally .
  • Knows how to inspire and lead the design team to develop the most innovative communications across multiple channels.
  • Has the ability to examine and challenge briefs in an effort to provide clear and fertile creative direction for the team.
  • Has a solid understanding of their client business, brands and category.
  • Has a high degree of accuracy, reliability and professionalism.
