Creative Record Label Intern
Job Description
We’re looking for a creative intern with a passion for lo-fi hip-hop to join our team based in East London!!
About us:
College Music is a record label & online curator founded by two friends out of a love for sharing music. Today, CM touts over 1m subscribers on YouTube and a further 1m on Spotify, and the record label releases music on a weekly basis. We also have a new sub-label specialising in UK Hip-Hop called Well Overdue, where we're working with a number of upcoming artists from London and beyond.
Our HQ is currently located in Hackney with good accessibility to overground/tube lines & bus routes. It’s a space tailored to the work we do and is a suitably relaxed, open environment, with space to work and chill as well as make music. You’ll be surrounded by some very exciting artists on a daily basis as we’ll often have people coming through for meetings, sessions and social visits.
We see College Music as far more of a lifestyle than a job, and a strong part of the culture we’re building is as much on the social side as it is work, and we often spend evenings in the HQ, be it having a beer, finding new music (/making music) or working into the night on various bits and pieces.
As we have grown, so to has the workload, and we’re looking to expand our team in order to keep with the amount of work which is where you come in:
About the job:
Your role would include (but by no means limited to):
- Uploading to our YouTube page
- Curating our playlists
- Posting on social media/promo
- Scouting for new artists
- Asset creation
- Day to day administration
The nature of the work means you’ll need to be dynamic and flexible, as the day to day work encomapsses a very diverse range of different things all running alongside each other.
You’ll be working alongside Jonny & Luke, the two founders of College Music, who will be guiding/mentoring etc. We work from the office Monday to Friday, so we'd prefer someone who is comfortable coming into work as the nature of creative work and understanding how we'd like things to start with isn't as suitable to be done remotely .
Above all things, we're looking for someone who is keen to be part of a small but fast growing team and really get stuck into the job. Someone who can function on their own initiative, while interested in working in an environment of young adults - who can be professional and easy going.
Requirements / necessary skills for the role include:
- A love for the music (lo-fi hip-hop, Underground UK Hip-Hop + more), and an interest in the goings on/activity within the industry
- Ideally previous experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, After Effects)
- Knowledge of the workings of Spotify & YouTube (and other DSPs is a plus!)
- Strong social skills (there’s a lot of social interaction with artists on daily basis)
- Strong organisational skills (the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently with different deadlines and needs)
- Ability to work independently once an idea is proposed (once you’ve learnt the ropes you’ll gain a fair amount of autonomy)
Seeing as we both dropped out of University to take College Music full time, a degree is by no means necessary, we’d far prefer someone with relevant experience and a strong passion for the work you’d be undertaking!
Perks include - meals/beer on us, a fun open workplace, a place to be as creative as you like with autonomy, and to work with some of the UK's most exciting artists on both College Music Records & Well Overdue.
This job will start off as a 3-6 month internship (dependent on your availibility) and the successful applicant has great scope to quickly become part of the day-to day team on a longer term basis.
