Job Description

We are looking for a Lead Web Developer to join our growing team.

The role

At Daysix we deliver great websites for our clients, but we’d like to do it even better. As part of a growing business and changing remits, a position has become available for someone to lead our web department and have responsibility for driving web at Daysix.

We build and maintain a growing number of websites for a wide spectrum of clients across private, public and charity sectors. Web is often the cornerstone of a project or the entry point for a lot of new clients, and an incredibly important part of our service. We’re looking for someone with a love of web to lead all elements of delivery and development of our web projects as well as maintenance of our (predominantly WordPress) websites.

About you

You’re a highly proficient and experienced back and front end developer, and love the wonderfully messy world of web. You’re familiar with a wide variety of technologies and frameworks and able to quickly and intuitively determine the best tool for any job. You’ll know everything WordPress and WooCommerce like the back of your hand.

You’re passionate about creating great user experiences and are always learning about the services and tools available to help achieve it.

You take pride in your work with a strong attention to detail. You’re outcome and solution-focussed but also robustly pragmatic.

You’re a team player, excellent at communicating, collaborating with people, and at improving and supporting lesser-experienced developers.

You’ve been around the block when it comes to web and there’s little you haven’t come across or dealt with before and can handle anything else that’s thrown at you, whether that’s dealing with legacy technology, integrating services and APIs, managing servers, creating experiences or just navigating clients through a web project to give them a great result.

What you’ll be doing

Leading all aspects of our website output to ensure we deliver excellently and according to all current best practices and standards.

Working closely with our design and our project management teams to deliver great work together. Reviewing and deciding on new business, inputting into specifications and proposals, setting strategy for delivering work and honing how we approach web as a whole.

Working closely with clients and stakeholders to understand business requirements and help translate these into an approach for web and technical requirements for the development team.

Directing the development team in the design, development, coding, testing and debugging of applications.

Managing the ongoing maintenance and support of both new and existing websites.

Must-haves

We’re looking for someone to come in and improve what we do so, experience, proven track-record and confidence is essential. Applicants will need to clearly demonstrate practical experience with developing content-heavy WordPress websites as many of our existing sites and infrastructure have that profile.

Demonstrable experience of the following are essential:

  • WordPress/Plugins/ACF
  • HTML/CSS/JS/PHP
  • MySQL
  • Git/version control
  • Payment platforms and integrations
  • Handling servers/data/imports/exports
  • Comfortable with APIs
  • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks
  • CI/CD
  • Security tooling and best practice

What we offer

We are a passionate team of designers, film makers and developers who believe in making good things. We push ourselves and find creative solutions to all sorts of problems.

  • A balance of remote and in-office working
  • Company-wide profit sharing scheme
  • Training budget and development plan
