We make desk objects, homeware and apparel that are funnier than they need to be. Mustard sells into independent and major retailers worldwide. Melodrama is our newer sub-brand and a different animal entirely.
We're looking for one designer to work with us on an ongoing basis, not a single project. You'd be working directly with the founder.
The work
Developing product ranges around a theme, from concept through to production artwork. Typographic and surface pattern work — slogans, prints, repeats. Packaging artwork and dielines. Apparel graphics. Occasional site and social assets.
What we're after
Five-plus years across lifestyle, apparel or product brands.
Experience taking ranges from concept to production, and knowing what a factory needs.
Strong type and pattern. Most of what we make lives or dies on the words and how they're set.
Humour that stays dry. Nothing motivational, nothing cute.
Enough seniority to work unsupervised
What this isn't
Guideline policing, decks, or a route to a full-time role. It's a small, opinionated brand where your work goes into production and onto shelves fast.
Rate
£30–60 an hour depending on experience. The upper end is for a proven track record of taking ranges through to production. This is an ongoing monthly retainer rather than project work, so tell us your rate on that basis.
We'll start with one paid piece of work at your quoted rate, with hours agreed upfront, before moving to a retainer.
