Job Description

We are recruiting on behalf of a nationally recognisable bathroom retailer. They are looking for a creative and forward-thinking person with an eye for a story to join their team and lead their internal Digital PR activities after a period of strong growth.

If you are looking for progression to a more senior role or at a crossroads in your career then this is an ideal position for an ambitious individual to take the reins and lead from the front in an exciting and fast-paced industry.

With their small existing team, you will be responsible for every journey of their PR activity from strategy to outreach, actively monitoring their competitors and auditing theirs and their own activity to spot gaps, identify opportunities and help improve their overall digital performance and visibility.

You will have a naturally journalistic and inquisitive nature, know what is on-trend and what isn’t, and be able to develop stories with strong hooks that can engage publications and readers alike.

From journalists to influencers, bloggers and webmasters, you will use existing relationships with journalists and media contacts, or by building, curating, and maintaining new ones, you will use your persuasive skills to sell in these stories to acquire PR coverage, brand awareness, and links across a range of niches from high-quality publications.

You will be able to use your knowledge to create campaigns that use a variety of tactics and that are evergreen and offer longevity to pivot and be reactive to changing news agendas. You will also be able to use these campaigns to maximise awareness on other channels and mediums.

Working alongside their digital agency, you will also help to keep an always-on press office for news stories, collaborating with the Content Team and Marketing Team and other internal and external stakeholdersnwherever necessary.

Finally, you will help enact their vision of shaping, developing, and growing their Digital PR strategy with the potential to grow the team further and have line management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ideation of campaign ideas to secure PR, links, and coverage from a range of digital publications from news to bloggers and influencers
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key media stakeholders and publications to ensure they are always first in mind for stories
  • Monitoring media requests and forward features of publications to spot potential quick opportunities
  • Keeping on top of the news agenda to find newsjacking, reactive and new opportunities for PR coverage
  • Creation and regularly reviewing and maintaining our digital PR strategy to ensure the right link acquisition approach and tactics are being used
  • Briefing in content requirements to other members of the team or working with freelancers/external creatives to execute campaigns
  • Building and maintaining media lists to outreach to
  • Reviewing content to ensure it meets the brief, tone of voice and achieves desired objectives
  • Supporting their Content and Marketing Team to create excellent copy, press releases
  • Reporting on the success and performance of campaigns to management and Directors
  • Upskilling and growing the team to ensure that they can always have a 24/7 fast, reactive press office
  • Management and collaboration with our digital marketing agencies

Essentials Skills & Attributes

  • Experience in traditional or Digital PR
  • Strong relationship management to build, maintain and control their links with journalists and publications, as well as other stakeholders internally and externally
  • A persuasive written & personal manner to be able to sell stories into the press and highlight strong hooks, angles and convince publications to cover them and acquire links
  • Excellent writing skills to be able to draft succinct, punchy pitches, and also to help draft quotes/press releases
  • A natural-born leader that can get buy-in from other team members, as well as being sensitive and constructive with feedback to be able to execute excellent campaigns
  • Highly reactive and agile individual to be able to adapt to changing news agendas, respond to urgent media requests/demands
  • Knowledge of and awareness of SEO and Digital Marketing and the principles of these and how Digital PR fits into these
  • Able to use and knowledge of industry tools such as Ahrefs, MajesticSEO, Moz, HARO, ResponseSource, Cision/Roxhill & AnswerThePublic
  • Data-driven and able to use this to shape and build campaigns, as well as to report on their success
  • Knowledge of media databases, journalist roles, and their beats in order to build accurate media outreach lists to get to the right people
  • Strong time management and ability to manage own workload
  • Trends & up-to-speed on current affairs, latest pop culture and everyday stories to be able to take advantage of these
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of software (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) & Outlook

Desired but not essential

  • Management experience or responsibilities for campaign management
  • Experience in providing training and development to other team members
  • Experience working in the bathroom industry or similar (Kitchens, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, home furnishings)
  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems and how to upload content
  • Experience with creative software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, etc.).
