Role Overview
As Strategy Director, you’ll be an integral part of the business – translating deep insight and cultural intelligence into bold, creatively-charged strategies that fuel everything from brand launches to global campaigns and collaborations. Whether it’s redefining a heritage brand for a new generation, launching a global campaign with a renowned artist, or supporting an established brand to think differently – you’ll be an integral part of CONSUL’s efforts to shape narratives that don’t just respond to culture, but create it.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Lead and own the strategic vision, direction, and process for all key projects.
- Deliver clear and robust strategies for flagship projects.
- Ensure appropriate strategic methodologies and thinking are applied to meet or exceed client/project needs.
- Guide and govern strategic development throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide ongoing strategic oversight, ensuring output aligns with client goals and evolving market dynamics and trends.
- Deliver thought leadership both internally and externally, shaping the studio’s reputation as a strategic authority.
Client Management & Strategic Presentation
- Lead direct client engagement, managing major accounts.
- Represent the studio in high-level strategic conversations.
- Present strategies and campaign proposals in a compelling, structured, and persuasive way.
- Understand clients’ brand ambitions, business objectives, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities.
- Track performance against KPIs and ensure outcomes meet/exceed expectations.
Creative Development & Narrative Strategy
- Oversee creative campaign development to ensure strategic alignment with brand and business goals.
- Build and direct clear narrative and deck structures across all projects.
- Contribute to creative copywriting, review of tone, messaging and brand storytelling.
- Collaborate closely with creative and production teams for seamless strategic execution.
- Foster collaboration between creatives, strategists, and account/project managers.
- Deliver strategic input across the full breadth of studio output.
- Consider, research and suggest guest/collaborator suitability for events and activations.
Team Leadership, Mentorship & Culture
- Line-manage and guide junior and mid-weight strategists. Providing direction and clarity on team workloads and deliverables.
- Promote a studio-wide culture of creativity, collaboration, and friendship.
- Actively support team members in their career ambitions through regular check-ins and informal mentorship.
- Proactively check on mental health and wellbeing, ensuring emotional resilience within the team.
- Lead by example to create a safe, open, and dynamic working environment.
- Enable cross-functional creative sparring, team bonding, and open studio dialogue.
Studio & Operational Agility
- Manage cross-functional tasks such as project and budget oversight.
- Maintain awareness of project deliverables and ensure alignment with scope.
- Be present and available to support all other team members and departments as required.
- Maintain involvement across projects to troubleshoot, advise, and direct when needed.
Cultural Intelligence & Market Awareness
- Stay attuned to emerging cultural, social, digital and creative trends.
- Bring insight and data to strategic thinking when required, supporting strategies with analytics.
- Monitor competitor activity and emerging platforms for new opportunities or risks.
- Promote and embed cultural relevance in all work and studio discussions.
Business Development & Commercial Growth
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to clients. Present strategies with confidence and clarity, fostering strong relationships built on insight and impact.
- Identify and cultivate new business opportunities, both within current client accounts and through external leads.
- Lead on commercial conversations and pitch strategy.
- Leverage personal and industry networks to unlock untapped revenue streams.
- Develop proactive strategic concepts to entice future partnerships.
- Support the financial health and growth of the business by aligning strategic excellence with commercial value.
Thought Leadership & Industry Positioning
- Encourage studio-wide curiosity by sharing industry reports, whitepapers, and cultural findings.
- Champion knowledge-sharing beyond traditional advertising or design boundaries.
- Strengthen the studio’s public presence through meaningful contributions to creative communities.
- Maintain relationships with industry leaders, publications, and organisations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in brand strategy, campaign development, and strategic direction.
- Proven ability to craft inspiring briefs, build strategic frameworks, and present to senior-level clients.
- Deep understanding of consumer behavior, culture, music, sport and emerging trends, with a knowledge of the catalysts and leaders in those fields.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and storytelling skills. Including impeccable grammar and the ability to present and justify strategic thinking clearly.
- Experience working across various industries and campaign types – brand, digital, experiential, content, and beyond.
- Comfortable with iterative workflows, feedback, and tight deadlines.
- Extensive experience across high-profile fashion, luxury, culture and youth-driven clients.
- Strong background in crafting integrated brand narratives and multi-platform strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional teams.
- Previous success mentoring and developing team members in fast-paced creative environments.
- Track record of building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Proficiency in structuring strategic narratives and visual storytelling for pitches and campaigns.
- Commercially minded with the ability to connect creativity with tangible business growth.
- An empathetic, people-first leadership style that contributes to studio wellbeing and creativity.
