ABOUT US

Wolfe Hall is a narrative and research-led design studio founded in 2019 by Luke Hall and Jason Wolfe. The studio collaborates internationally with cultural institutions and clients working prominently within the cultural sector to create publications, exhibitions, small print items, brand identities, typefaces/lettering, signage, wayfinding and digital platforms.

ROLE

We are looking for a Junior Designer to join our studio full-time. The position will be based at our studio in North London.

The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in the work that Wolfe Hall creates. They must be an enthusiastic designer producing innovative, high-quality work with conceptual reasoning and a strong attention to detail.

The role will involve working on a range of different projects each day, either independently or assisting the directors. Including, but not limited to: research, conceptual thinking, project management, layout, type/lettering design, spatial design, identity design, art direction, artworking and preparing files for production. It is not required to have expertise and experience in all of these areas, but we are looking for someone agile with a willingness to learn and a curiosity to ask questions.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively within a tightly knit team, keeping calm under pressure, following briefs and direction, and sticking to deadlines.

The candidate will be required to have a valid UK work permit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

– Working within a team to undertake creative, conceptual decisions and guide those ideas into a range of deliverables across all types of media.

– Supporting the directors to develop projects.

– Conceptual thinking and designing.

– Developing production specifications, liaising with suppliers, obtaining estimates and managing production.

– Preparing a file for production, including layout, completing amends, image retouching, typesetting and artworking.

– Communicating effectively and professionally with clients.

– Assisting in the day-to-day running of the studio.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

– Ability to work collaboratively and make decisions in a fluid environment under tight deadlines.

– Proficient knowledge of Adobe Suite (InDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator).

– Good quality typographic skills and an enthusiasm for language.

– A genuine passion for design and the arts.

– Flexible, highly driven, self-motivated and punctual.

– Strong sense of quality control and a close attention to detail.

– Experience in Glyphs or other type design programmes is appreciated but not essential.

– Experience in programming and design for web and digital platforms is appreciated but not essential.

– An understanding of production methods and craft is appreciated but not essential.

– Previous design studio experience is appreciated but not essential.
