Job Description
About Smartphone Free Childhood
Smartphone Free Childhood (SFC) is a fast-growing movement on a mission to change the culture around kids, smartphones, and childhood. We’re building a brand and community that millions of people can feel part of – and design is absolutely central to how we do it.
We’re looking for a talented, hands-on designer to join us as we grow. You’ll be creating a wide range of assets that bring our story to life: from campaign graphics and social media posts to reports, toolkits, and event materials. The work is varied and fast-paced: some days it’s rolling out templates, other days it’s contributing to ideas that could be seen on billboards across the country.
SFC is led by a team that includes former agency creatives and strategists, so creativity, storytelling and design sit at the core of our approach. You’ll collaborate closely with our Design Director and wider team, joining a creative environment where your skills and imagination can make a real impact.
The role
You’ll be supporting our design output across a wide range of projects, including:
- Social media graphics and digital assets
- Layout and design for reports, PDFs and toolkits
- Flyers, posters and campaign materials
- Uploading and managing assets on our website
- Responding to ad-hoc requests from the team and wider community
Working within our brand guidelines, you’ll make sure everything we put out looks sharp, consistent and inspiring.
What we’re looking for
Core skills:
- A strong eye for detail, typography and layout
- A portfolio that shows breadth, craft and imagination
- Excellent Figma skills
- Excellent Adobe Creative Suite skills (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Proficiency in Canva
- Ability to adapt quickly to new platforms and tech tools
Bonus points for:
- Illustration skills
- Basic motion design (After Effects, Premiere, or equivalent)
- Experience using Mailchimp and/or Klaviyo
- Experience using AI tools to improve workflow and output
Experience
Proven track record in a hands-on design role – at a startup, scale-up, charity or agency
You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
- Imaginative – you bring ideas as well as execution.
- Organised – you’re used to juggling multiple projects and prioritising deliverables.
- Fast and reliable – you’re comfortable working at pace and delivering high-quality work, even to tight deadlines.
- Collaborative – you’re open, responsive, and good with feedback.
- Mission-driven – you want your work to contribute to something bigger.
The offer
Freelance role, 2.5 days per week
Initial 3-month contract, with potential to extend/become permanent
Remote (UK-based), ideally with flexibility to attend occassional in-person team days in London or Suffolk
