Job Description

As the world’s leading illustrated non-fiction Publisher we are looking for a super creative, talented and experienced Designer to join us as we evolve our Lifestyle books with groundbreaking design and hardworking content.

The Life team creates books about all things lifestyle and health, this includes books for adults on cooking, drink, gardening, craft, fitness, and self-improvement. We work with high-profile authors and with the best photographers and illustrators in the industry. We are seeking someone who is passionate about design, wants to learn from the best and is keen to develop their career in a creative environment.

Reporting into the Design Lead, you will have the opportunity to establish yourself, have your say and make your mark on our content’s styling. You will be someone who can get stuck in from the get-go and can handle working to multiple deadlines.

From day one, you'll dive right in, assisting Senior Designers, and actively contributing to the design of book internals and covers of integrated and narrative titles. As you develop your skills, you'll eventually take on the responsibility of running your own titles in collaboration with our Acquisitions editors. Additionally, you'll play a crucial role in briefing and commissioning photographers and illustrators.

This is a fast-paced role and where strong organisational skills will be key to delivering high quality results within multiple deadlines. Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written, are another must as you collaborate with colleagues and freelancers.

In return for your hard work, you will have the opportunity to thrive within a truly collaborative business where you have the freedom to make a real impact.

If you have made it this far and have a portfolio that shows the whole breadth and depth of your work, we’d love to see it. To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV and portfolio of your recent relevant design work. Please note, only applications with their Cover letter, CV and portfolio supplied as PDFs will be considered.

Closing date for applications: 12 January 2024

We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our people, some of which are:

  • 25 days paid holiday entitlement in year one, plus bank holidays
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Volunteering policy and charity matching
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Cycle to work scheme and discounted gym membership
  • Summer hours

And we plant a tree for every new employee to our business
