- Salary: £30,000 to £33,000, full-time equivalent, pro rata to 3 days a week

The Role

We are looking for exceptional Cover and Jacket Designer to join the in-house design team, based at our offices in Central London.

The role demands flair, creativity, and proven experience in print design right through from initial concepts to final layout files ready for production. You will be expected to design jackets for our non-fiction titles turning the books into distinctive objects of desire with wide appeal.

What we are looking for:

- Strong conceptual design skills, an interest in History, History of Art, Popular Science, Nature and Biography as well as a marketing-savvy understanding of today’s multi-generational readership.

- Portfolios that show an intelligent and inspired use of a rich and varied visual language. Your work will demonstrate a scrupulous attention to detail, precise and expressive typography, an ace picture editor’s eye, a love of colour and print finishes, and the ability to fuse all these elements together to create desirable and attention-grabbing covers and jackets that stand out in physical and digital retail environments.

- A track record of working well in a diverse team and great visual and verbal communication skills. The position can require collaboration with international authors and artists; in-house picture researchers, editors, production controllers as well as the 12-strong in-house design department and our colleagues in the sales and marketing departments.

- Good organisational skills, decisiveness and flexibility, speed and precision, and a firm grasp of print production processes and materials are essential.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
