Job Description

Pentagram Design London are looking for a 3D Motion Designer to join Luke Powell and Jody Hudson-Powell’s creative team for a range of exciting projects. We are looking for individuals proficient in motion graphics, 3D and creative coding with a keen eye for graphic design.

Alongside their multi-disciplinary team, Luke and Jody continue to explore their eclectic interests and intrigues – from AI and Fashion to TV, Film and Art. Working for clients commercially and culturally alike, their parallel practice is fundamentally technical, challenging and whimsical. We consider the intersections of design and technology as something fluid and forever evolving. Luke and Jody’s design practice has involved 3D and motion design since the beginning. As such, the role of 3D Motion Designer is valued and integral to our overall approach to brand design.

We work with a wide range of clients in different industries so we are always learning and evolving with each new project. This makes the role of the 3D Motion Designer shift and expand into multiple territories. The most common tasks are prototyping and execution of motion and 3D ideas, researching motion behaviours and graphic systems, creating motion graphics and UI animations, 3D abstract illustrations, photorealistic renders and animations. Design and prototype graphic tools and generative setups with code or node based systems.

This role is suitable for someone who is interested in creating new visual and motion languages as part of brand creation projects. The focus is on developing visual systems rather than promotional films or content.

Essential Experience/Skills

  • Confident in After Effects, Cinema 4D, Redshift/Octane. Experience with Houdini, Mograph, Xparticles and Trapcode Suite is a bonus.
  • Capable of coding/scripting and using node-based systems.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with graphic designers, front-end/creative developers.
  • Ability to embed conceptual thinking, motion principles and guidance into branding.
  • A strong understanding of design principles.
  • Experience in managing project streams independently and efficiently.

Luke and Jody’s core team is directed by them and made up of two Project Managers, four Designers, one Digital Designer/Developer, one 3D Motion Designer/Technical Director and a Team Assistant. We’re a collaborative team and this role will be a good fit for someone who thrives working both collaboratively and independently from idea generation through to design development, formatting and delivery.

Desirable Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Experience with generative and procedural systems big plus.
  • Experience with UnrealEngine or Unity

Who are Pentagram?

Pentagram is a multi-disciplinary, independently owned design studio with offices in London, New York, Austin and Berlin. This role will be based in London.

Our work encompasses graphics and identity, products and packaging, exhibitions and installations, websites and digital experiences, advertising and communications, sound and motion. Our 23 partners are all practicing designers, and whether working collaboratively or independently, they do so in friendship.

Our structure is unique. We are the only major design studio where the owners of the business are the creators of the work and serve as the primary contact for every client. This reflects our conviction that great design cannot happen without passion, intelligence and – above all – personal commitment, and is demonstrated by a portfolio that spans five decades, many industries, and clients of every size.
