Job Description

Following a period of strong growth, Newspaper Club is looking for a General Manager to join the business in a new role. The General Manager will support the CEO in delivering leadership and strategic direction for the company and will be instrumental in delivering the major goals and objectives of the business.

This is a great opportunity to become a key member of a small, close-knit team, working in the creative industries. The General Manager will work with everyone in the business and be responsible for the smooth running of the organisation across all operational areas.

The ideal candidate will be a well organised multi-tasker with excellent communication and people management skills, someone who gets into the detail but can also see the big picture. Duties

  • Manage the smooth running of the team and office including: reviewing operational and training needs; providing clear internal communications and maintaining an effective and cost-effective working environment
  • Oversee successful running of all Newspaper Club processes such as customer support and print management, upholding our ‘Excellent’ 5-star Trustpilot rating
  • Commercial and financial management including pricing and driving profitability
  • Overall responsibility for HR - policies, hiring, organisational development and training
  • Support the CEO with accreditations and reporting including board meetings, and preparation of annual and quarterly reports
  • Identify opportunities to improve sustainability and own Newspaper Club’s commitment to Net Zero
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with partners, suppliers and other stakeholders

Skills and experience required

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a management position
  • Experience of process management and managing teams
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Resourceful and independent with a proactive approach and the ability to work without close supervision
  • Expertise in project management and planning
  • Excellent knowledge of online communication and organisational tools like Slack, Basecamp, Trello etc.

About the role

  • Hours – full-time (35 hours per week) - hours are flexible, most people work 9-5, Monday-Friday
  • Salary – £45,000-£52,000 depending on experience, plus annual profit share bonus
  • Location – Glasgow preferred but anywhere in the UK will be considered. Hybrid working - in Glasgow office/remote
  • Type of contract - permanent
