Job Description

Who are we?

Mindfully Wired Communications (MWC) is a small, dynamic and creative communications consultancy working on environmental projects. We focus our work on the marine environment, but our projects touch on climate change, sustainable seafood, community engagement, connections to nature, and much more. We’re also a not-for-profit organisation and rooted in value-based messaging.

What are we looking for?

We’re now looking for a new member of our busy Creative & Marketing team – someone with design skills, real visual flair, an eye for detail, and the ability to work across a range of projects calmly and professionally, to support the smooth working of the other team members. We also need someone with flexible and creative writing skills, able to produce compelling and grammatically precise copy for a wide range of audiences. This ranges from impactful social media posts, press copy, blogging and film-scripting.

What can the Creative Comms Officer expect?

The ideal candidate for the Creative Comms Officer role will be friendly, flexible, highly professional and an adept multi-tasker. Meeting deadlines and supporting the work of the Creative Projects Manager is a must. In return for hard work and a positive approach to work, the successful applicant can expect to work as part of an incredibly welcoming, fast-paced and fun office environment, with plenty of built-in team socials, away days, and the option for funded training to address knowledge or skills gaps.

What sort of projects will I work on?

Projects in the immediate pipeline for the Creative Team include regional and national seafood marketing initiatives, international advocacy projects, significant web design and development for a range of clients and campaign production on social and welfare issues in coastal communities. The workload across MWC is constantly evolving, and the project portfolio for this role will similarly develop over time.

Specific duties include:

  • Social media for multiple accounts and across a range of platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest)
  • Graphic design, using tools such as Canva, Photoshop and InDesign – creating materials for use on social media, websites, for presentations and in print materials
  • Photography, video and image editing
  • Creative writing, web-copy writing and proofing documents
  • Preparing media and social media contacts lists, and Creative Team admin
  • Attending strategy meetings, conducting client research, drafting guide materials for multi-faceted projects and conducting client calls
  • Creating and distributing newsletters in Mailchimp

So – Who are ya:

  • Impeccable grammar and excellent writing overall ~ copywriting for newsletters, blogs and social media is a large part of this role
  • Graphic design skills or a proven keen visual eye ~ this is primarily a creative role and you must be confident in producing your own designs and creative ideas
  • Degree-level qualification
  • Demonstrable interest in sustainability and the marine environment
  • Sound understanding of communications activities, including social media – and knowledge of which platforms to use and when
  • Highly dependable and flexible attitude
  • Exceptionally organised, and with the ability to maintain organised digital systems (G-drive, email inbox, LightRoom etc)
  • Fluent in use of MS Suite and confident with Google tool
  • Calm and friendly demeanour and ability to talk confidently with other professionals, and diverse environmental stakeholders
  • Determination, drive and the ability to juggle a diverse workload and consistently deliver to deadline.

Have all of the above? What are you waiting for! Get drafting your cover letter, pronto! (See submission info below)

The cherry on top:

  • Experience with managing website content – particularly WordPress and SquareSpace
  • Experience with video editing tools
  • Experience liaising with, at any level, media contacts
