Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join Bloomsbury Publishing an award-winning and independent leading publisher.

We are looking for a talented, creative Designer/Senior Designer (depending on experience) to join our highly productive Academic and Professional Division, which publishes across a range of subjects including Fashion, Philosophy, Education, Linguistics, Design, History, Drama and Film and Media. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a career in book cover design, working across a broad range of projects.

The role

  • cover design of new titles across selected lists
  • generating final cover artwork (using Adobe CS) for new titles
  • liaising with editorial, marketing and production colleagues, and external suppliers on cover design, status, schedules, and budgets
  • ensure company systems are kept up-to-date with cover data, files and status
  • conduct fortnightly Cover Meeting with title Editors

Knowledge, skills and experience 

  • experience working in an academic publishing environment
  • proven technical expertise (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
  • experience of managing freelance designers and illustrators
  • excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • the ability to process a large volume of work quickly and accurately
  • a keen eye for detail
  • the confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers

Salary: from £30,000 pa (depending on experience)

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).
