Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) is a London based creative studio. Our expertise has earned us a reputation for bold, ambitious and industry-defining works that push boundaries, redefine expectations and excite audiences worldwide. Our work is responsive and spans kinetic sculpture, live performance and virtual reality.
We’re looking to recruit a Head of Production into the team, this is a new role in the organisation. You will be a key member of the team with accountability for production management. Your two main focuses will be resource management and managing the production team.
MLF operates with an ethos that aims to put creativity front and centre across all our work. It is the role of the Head of Production to work within that environment to ensure all projects - from concept to delivery - are effectively resourced, delivered on time, within budget and to an excellent quality.
We appreciate this is a relatively niche role in a niche industry so we are open to candidates looking to develop their careers perhaps moving on from senior project management or producing roles, alternatively transferring skills from other industries such as game development, VFX or TV/Film. Main Responsibilities
Leadership/Strategy
You will be responsible for driving the development and implementation of company strategies across the production team - communicating a clear sense of direction and purpose. You will represent the production team at a senior level and be responsible for monitoring & reporting on performance against objectives and other measures.
You will have the ability to react positively to our rapidly evolving business demands and excel within the dynamic industry MLF operates in. You are comfortable leading change and continuous improvement programmes, as well as making decisions which have a positive impact and help achieve company objectives.
Resourcing
Working on both short-term and advanced scheduling you will oversee resourcing within the organisation, in collaboration with appropriate colleagues, to ensure effective management of the people and resources of MLF. You will be accountable for consistency of approach in budgeting, scheduling and managing productions to deliver best in class work and demonstrable value for money through effective short, medium and long term strategic planning.
Management
You will oversee the work, performance and professional development of the production team. You will be accountable for ensuring the production team understands the vital importance of all aspects of delivering projects at MLF.
You will be able to motivate your peers and have the ability to manage expectations and escalate challenges in a productive and constructive manner. You will lead on the recruitment and supervision of the production team building the collaborative culture and improving their craft.
Financial
You will manage the departmental budget and by the very nature of running the production team you oversee all projects from concept to delivery at MLF. You will be responsible for monitoring financial viability, performance and mitigating risk, responding to any significant variations and ensuring stringent cost control.
Competencies & Experience
- 7+ years in production
- Have experience across realtime and baked pipelines with demonstrable experience in AR/VR/MR, Experiential and Web.
- Understands the potential of new technologies and systems and considers the impact of their introduction in production.
- Considerable experience of long-term planning and leading people, teams and resources around complex & sizeable - schedules and budgets.
- Ensuring that all activities demonstrate best practice and respond to any applicable legislation or professional guidelines
- Comfortable being an enabler and linchpin at the core of a team.
- Skilled in applying a range of techniques to influence positive outcomes. Able to influence at every level and gain the commitment of key players to proposed courses of action.
- Sustains performance and remains calm and in control when under pressure or in difficult situations
- Promotes a climate in which information and knowledge is openly shared.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, verbal and written skills comfortable reporting to the Board
- Flexibility, patience and a positive approach to tasks
- Highly motivated, well organised and excellent attention to detail
- Experience of; google apps (mail, calendars, gdocs, drive), slack, keynote, numbers, pages, word, excel, photoshop, dropbox or other systems and you are quick to learn new ones.
- Interest in the organisation’s area of work & an understanding of the context in which it operates.

- This role is full time
- Holiday at 25 days per year plus Christmas studio closure (plus bank holidays)
- Flexible working options and childcare friendly practices
- Permanent contract, with 3 month probationary period
- Salary, dependent on experience but in the region of £50,000 - £60,000

About Us
We are a small team of around 25 which grows on a project-by-project basis. You will work alongside everyone on the team, some of which work regularly in the studio and the rest work remotely from various locations in the UK. Our studio is in Hackney Wick, London. MLF embraces the remote office and works wherever we can and need to at any given time.
