Design Lead

About Soldo

Soldo combines smart company cards with a comprehensive management platform. It’s the brighter way to manage business spending.

We’re proud to be one of Europe’s fastest-growing fintech companies and supported by the world’s leading investors, who also back Facebook, Spotify, Monzo, Slack, Citymapper, and Deliveroo. In our recent Series C funding round, we closed $180m – a record for a European spend management company.

Today, we have 26,000+ customers across Europe, offices in London, Milan, Rome, and Dublin, and over 200 people from 20 nations. This diversity is one of the reasons we thrive and our inclusive, high-performance culture is recognised in our Glassdoor reviews and overall score (4.6/5.0).

Consistently strong growth throughout the pandemic, as well as recently launching in four new markets, has created a requirement for a full-time, permanent Design Lead to head up design within our internal agency team.

Role summary

The Design Lead will head up the rapidly expanding design team in Soldo’s internal agency, initially managing three designers and reporting to the Director of Brand. They will lead the ongoing evolution of the brand from a design perspective and will oversee and support the end-to-end creation of content for all of our online and offline marketing channels, as well as designing output themselves.

We’re looking for someone who can lead a team independently, deliver a step change in quality of creative output and intuitively balance consistency with bringing new and exciting ideas to the table.

The internal agency team is currently made up of ten people and is growing regularly in line with the overall business.

Main responsibilities

• Leading the ongoing evolution of the Soldo brand from a design perspective, ensuring alignment with our overall business strategy and responding to the rapidly changing market we operate in

• Overseeing, coaching and supporting the design team to deliver a step change in the quality of creative output for all of our online and offline marketing channels

• Take full ownership of projects, from design brief to delivery

• Personally producing best practice output for a variety of online and offline marketing channels

• Monitoring direct and indirect competitors to ensure our brand remains distinctive and continually incorporates emerging best practice

• Ensuring our design output is consistently built on data and customer insight, contributing towards increasing brand awareness, consideration and growing Soldo

• Establishing design consistency and appropriate localisation for every market Soldo operates in (including but not limited to UK, Italy, Germany, France, Netherlands and Spain)

• Interacting with and influencing different senior stakeholders and teams across Soldo to ensure agreement on design requirements and that projects are executed efficiently

Requirements

• Strong background in personally developing and evolving brands from a design perspective

• Proven track record leading growing design teams, who produce output across a range of online and offline marketing channels, backed up by an impressive portfolio of distinctive work (produced personally and by teams managed)

• Extensive experience with ideation and creative concepting, in response to customer insight and various sources of data

• Excellent visual design skills, specifically composition and typographic skills

• Excellent skills in Adobe CC including XD, Premiere Pro and Figma

• Experience working in-house and/or at a Fintech is a bonus

Mindset

• Ambitious leader, with a growth mindset and a passion for creativity and customer-centric design across all marketing channels

• An excellent communicator able to work with people at all levels from different functions

• Happy to constructively challenge the status quo, spotting the chance to zig when others zag

• Someone who is motivated by the thought of a relatively blank ‘design page’ to build on and the huge opportunity that presents

• Able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

• Able to consistently coach and provide constructive feedback to motivate a team and further improve output. You’re willing to be very hands on when required.

• Happy to still produce output themselves, rather than exclusively directing others

• A pragmatic problem solver with exceptional attention to detail

• Results orientated with good commercial awareness
