We help smart organizations launch some of the most interesting ideas being developed today, and we’re looking for a designer who can help shape those ideas and turn them into iconic design work.

1. Modern visual communication lives online. We will only consider portfolios that clearly indicate you understand that. (i.e. your work demonstrates that you know how to make a large website, motion-based graphics, understand social marketing and digital products, etc.)
2. This is a senior position in a ~12-person studio working with large clients. Your portfolio and CV should indicate that you have experience leading a team, managing projects, and working directly with clients.
REQUISITS:
• A portfolio of work exhibiting experience in a range of disciplines and media with an emphasis in digital branding, strategy, and art direction
• Agency or studio experience leading a project from concept to launch, including project planning and managing a team
• Confidence making creative decisions and providing feedback across all aspects of a project that improve the quality of the work, push the boundaries of the brief, and reinforce the unique perspective of the studio
• Work displays a mastery of design fundamentals such as typography, layout, grid, etc. and impeccable attention to detail, especially in typography
• Clearly and confidently presents their work and ideas visually, orally, and in writing to any kind of audience
• Experience leading creative teams, coaching others, and actively seeking guidance from others
• Always seeks unique, novel solutions to design problems and draws from a variety of influences
• Willingness to be involved in the planning and management of projects to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently
• A clear point of view and work that expresses it
• Desire to be among a team of equals and help others
• Self-starter, modest, and solid work ethic
• Highly organized
• Values a self-directed, egalitarian, equitable work environment
• Gives and receives feedback generously and graciously
SKILLS:
• Can prepare and facilitate workshops and internal research
• Uses established and original frameworks for developing strategic positioning, identity systems, etc
• Ability to adapt and find solutions to keep projects moving forward
• Always picks the right tool for the job with an expansive idea of what those tools can be
• Can clearly define the boundaries and opportunities of a project in a written brief
• Thinks about visual identity systems in terms of scalability to different types of media, format, use-cases, and applications
• Designs systems that scale and flex rather than break or become bland
• Ability to organize large sets of information or disparate ideas into clear messaging, taxonomies, and patterns
• Keen eye for choosing, commissioning, creating, and critiquing imagery (illustration, photography, iconography, etc.)
• Can define, develop and create usable interactive experiences, interfaces, and other screen-based designs
• Can set the tone, provide critique, and create prototypes or production-ready motion, time-based, and non-linear designs
• Balances expression/utility, originality/expectation, simplicity/uniqueness
• Proficiency in a mix of tools, both contemporary (Figma, Sketch) and foundational (Adobe, x-acto knife)
• Software, technology, and basic tool literacy is never a barrier to productivity
• Works efficiently and priorities work appropriately
• Documents their own work
• Builds processes and systems that improve efficiency and consistency
BONUS:
• Conversant in a range of adjacent skills and disciplines (e.g. type design, animation, illustration, photography, coding, copywriting)
• Production-level skills in one of the above disciplines
• A desire to participate in the high-level activities of building and growing a design studio
• Direct involvement in implementing your designs with a development team, printers, etc.
• Network of both collaborators and past clients that you’ve worked with and would like to work with again
• Participation in extra-curricular activities like teaching, and community/professional organizations
DETAILS:
The salary range for this position is $84,000-$166,950 (commensurate with experience). This does not include our end-of-year profit-share, stipends, or other benefits.
This is a remote, full-time position. It is open to applicants in any location, though there is a preference for candidates based in or near New York City.
