ABOUT US

Motive is a design and build studio specialising in contemporary spatial projects for brands. From our South London studio we work with an international network of local suppliers to deliver high-impact projects through a low-impact lens.

ABOUT YOU

You will have 10+ years experience working within an agency setting within a similar role.

You will manage a growing team of both full time and freelance designers. Encouraging creativity and innovation in the studio whilst managing the delivery of design projects to our clients.

As an organised and proactive person you be able to efficiently manage a small team in a calm and proactive manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

DESIGN MANAGEMENT

•Manage design deliveries for projects spanning across pop up shops, window displays, activations and interior fit outs. With deliveries including concept packs, illustrations, 3D models, renders, drawings of intent and artwork files.

•Manage the design team workflow on multiple projects in parallel, using Monday.com for resourcing.

•Define how design projects are delivered to clients.

•Quote for the Design Team billable hours alongside the Project Management team.

•Attend Project Kick Off meetings to maintain an understanding of all projects going through the studio.

•Identify and highlight issues in the flow of projects through the design studio and ensure issues (e.g. people, speed, productivity, commitment) are resolved.

•Ensure the most suitable design software is being used & utlised in the studio.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

•Direct the Design Team to deliver conceptual projects, which feel new and unseen.

•Creatively direct through moodboards and sketches to kick off design projects.

•Manage the delivery and execution of design documents for client facing presentations.

HR

•Successfully manage contracted members of the design team with weekly 1:1 sessions and quarterly reviews.

•Manage the freelance database, and book freelancers for projects when required, alongside the Studio Coordinator.

•Manage the hiring of contracted members of the Design Team

•Oversee the onboarding of Design team members and freelancers

•Manage training of design team staff in studio or on external courses.

FINANCE

  • Successfully manage budgets allocated for Design studio spend, including people, research and innovation.

MARKETING & INNOVATION

•Plan and execute marketing activites across the year alongside the MD & Projects Director.

•Lead Design Pitches

•Attend New Buisness Meetings & Presentations.

•Oversee the Design Assistant on the management of the company website and social media

•Maintain an interest and awareness of new trends across the fashion and beauty industries.

REQUIREMENTS:

•Exceptional design and communication skills

•Experience working within the retail design industry, delivering projects including but not limited to pop up shops, window displays, retail activations and commercial interiors.

•Experience in successfully managing design teams made up of contracted and freelance staff.

•Expertise in developing, guiding, and managing all stages of the design process, including strategy, feasibility, concept, and technical design

•Proven experience managing design deadlines and timelines at various project durations.

•An interest in fashion, beauty and contemporary culture.

•Highly confident in resource management, adept in forecasting project needs, problem solving and tracking resource time to make the best out of everyone’s schedules

•Adept at picking up new platforms, tools and systems, and comfortable training others to use them

•Have a flair for managing and optimising processes, combined with an openness and adaptability to new ways of working

•Professional and calm manner

•Ability to work across multiple projects in tandem

PROGRAMMES:

Expert: Adobe Suite

Basic: V Ray, Sketch Up, Vectorworks

Non-essential: Monday, Slack, iCal, Dext, Xero
