In this role you will:

  • Support the Managing Editor in executing the annual editorial strategy and managing logistics as needed.

  • Coordinate and organise the Editor Picks section, and review and commission pitches by journalists.
  • Apply SEO methods to increase our content’s visibility on Google.
  • Use Google Analytics to analyse audience behaviour trends and draw conclusions to help optimise the editorial strategy and grow our readership base.
  • Compose engaging and well-researched SEO-friendly articles about topics relevant for FairPlanet (human rights and environmental justice).
  • Help write copy for FairPlanet’s newsletters and analyse its performance metrics to inform our newsletter strategy.
  • Support fundraising and collaborative campaigns by providing editorial insight and copy editing content.
  • Stay abreast of trending topics and identify compelling stories related to human rights, civil rights, and environmental justice that should be covered by FairPlanet.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

This role is for a candidate who: has a keen interest in editorial work and wants to gain experience in journalism that promotes humane and just causes.

What you bring:

  • Former experience (at least 2 years) in professional editorial work, ideally with an online publication or media company.
  • Superb writing and copy-editing skills (in English).
  • Deep familiarity with SEO methods.
  • Experience working with Google Analytics and studying site traffic data.
  • A University degree in journalism, political science, English or marketing is a plus, however we accept candidates based on the merit of their application and enthusiasm for our organisation’s work.
  • True passion for journalism, human rights, and environmental issues, and a desire for utilising your editorial skills to advance FairPlanet’s mission.

You will need to be able to work in a team as well as be self-motivated, eager to roll up your sleeves and learn as you go.

Details of work: This is a part time position. You will be working remotely, 4 days per week, 4 hours per day. We offer a six-month contract with an option to extend.
