Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced production editor and artworker to join our editorial design team in Bath, to work on projects with social progress at their heart. In this varied role, you’ll be hands-on artworking and typesetting well-crafted content across print and digital publications.

Here’s what you’ll be doing

Working within our fast-paced editorial design team, you will get involved in a diverse range of projects. From traditional typesetting of reports and creating technical graphics for printed publication, through to structuring and artworking long format content online, this role offers an exciting opportunity to develop our offer in digital publishing.

You’ll work closely with colleagues with a wealth of industry experience both in creative design and editorial services, collaborating on high-profile projects across the studio. While you are not required to have experience as an editor, a background in publishing and an eye for detail would suit this role.

Here’s the sort of skills and experience you’ll have

  • You have extensive experience in editorial design or production. You’re a creative problem-solver, eager to learn and have a can-do attitude.
  • You have exceptional layout and typography skills, with a meticulous eye for detail and a good understanding of print and digital artwork.
  • You are highly adept in using all of the core Adobe CC programmes – InDesign and Illustrator in particular.
  • You have some experience or basic understanding of CSS and HTML, happy getting to grips with clients’ CMSs and content entry.
  • You have excellent written and verbal English skills, with experience of working in a publishing field or related industry.
  • You have great organisation and time management skills. You’re happy working on multiple projects simultaneously, setting priorities and seeking help from colleagues when required.
  • You love working with written content, have amazing attention to detail, and enjoy making long-format publications accessible and engaging across print and digital.
  • You are a brilliant communicator; building lasting relationships with clients and delivering the highest standards of service.

Here’s a bit about us

Soapbox is a creative studio for ideas that matter. We partner with forward-thinking organisations to turn knowledge and evidence into social progress. We are designers, web developers, writers, thinkers, storytellers and problem-solvers. We are passionate about the power of ideas and evidence to build a better world.

We are a flexible and fair employer and our values run through everything we do, from the clients we work with to the way we treat our staff. This has helped us to build a close-knit, hard-working and ambitious team. Many of our colleagues have worked with us for a large part of their career, advancing professionally over their years with us.

The role is based in our bright and airy central Bath studio, with wonderful views overlooking the river Avon. It’s a short walk from the station, close to local amenities and a stone’s throw from the historic centre. Soapbox supports hybrid working but you can attend the studio full time if that’s your preference.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates who are members of groups that are currently under-represented at Soapbox, including LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and people from minority ethnic and religious communities.
