Job Description

Head of Content

Full-Time Contract

Mon-Fri, 09:00-18:00

Reporting to: Projects Director / Company Directors

We are looking for a Head of Content to join our team and help to set the agenda for our publication as a distinctive voice living across print, web and social. We believe our magazine is a destination for fans of culture who listen closely, notice details, buy tickets and value quality control. Our monthly issue is a trusted, free and accessible source of world-class storytelling and memorable visuals. Our online channels are an extension of this – a place for meaningful stories you wouldn’t see anywhere else, all presented with taste.

Our Head of Content will be instrumental in bringing that vision to life as a senior member of staff leading our Digital department. We’re looking for someone highly creative with an understanding of web, social, editorial and partnership strategies who can use their knowledge to join the dots, make big ideas feel possible and create work that people will care about. The work you make will need to reflect the latest audience trends and cultural moments while retaining Crack Magazine’s core values:

We should be showing audiences things they can’t find anywhere else

Artists at all levels deserve respect, context and creativity

Independent music is a global community which we are a part of

As our Head of Content, your key tasks will include:

Shaping the direction and intention of Crack Magazine’s content and sharing this vision with our team to get all departments working together towards shared goals

Managing our Digital Editor and Social Media Editor in terms of schedule and output but also creating a culture of inventive thinking and quick, reactive journalism

Devising highly watchable formats for TikTok and Instagram which reflect our voice but are also time-effective – making the most of the time we have ourselves and the time we have with artists

Developing Crack Magazine’s reputation for in-depth storytelling into longform audio and video ideas

Working with our Social Media Editor on reported, face-to-camera videos and audio content (and hosting pieces yourself if you know you’re the right fit)

Set, assign and monitor performance targets (for yourself and others) using analytics data then providing an honest final say on where attention and efforts should be spent to drive growth

Leading our weekly Content Meeting – developing good ideas and green-lighting great ones

Encouraging the growth of our Supporters Community by helping with product marketing and raising our profile as a worthwhile independent arts organisation

Working closely with our Editor-in-Chief to define our storytelling. Listening to the what, who and where and delivering the how

Lead on delivering groundbreaking moments for our organisation. Content series, events, initiatives and collaborations that show the world we are more than just a magazine

Meeting regularly with our company Directors to gain a deeper understanding of the business and respond to commercial objectives with creative solutions

Salary dependent on experience.
