Job Description

About Hackney Church

Hackney Church is a diverse, dynamic and fast-growing church, meeting across multiple locations around East London. Our vision is to play our part in seeing a renaissance: restoring lives, revitalising churches and renewing culture. We are committed to supporting our local community through not only the Church, but also by running a gig venue, brewery, charity and apiary.

Having undergone a rebrand towards the end of 2020, we are looking to bring on an in-house designer to become our brand guardian for the visual communications of the church on an initial part-time, 3-month contract.

About the role

The candidate will be required to work with a small team of junior designers to create visual content across Hackney Church’s areas of work, reporting to the Head of Spaces. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • To act as principal designer for visual communications and assist in the management of Hackney Church’s social media accounts – primarily Instagram.
  • To act as principal designer for printed assets across Hackney Church’s locations.
  • To assist with the management of the hackney.church website, as required.
  • To work on special design projects as and when required, such as designing merchandise, shows and events at Hackney Church, and on our many sub-brands.

Reporting to: Head of Spaces

Salary: £150-200 per day, depending on experience.

Working Hours: 16 hours per week (flexible days), for an initial period of three months. With the possibility of extension and adding additional hours.

About you

Essential

It is essential that the candidate feels comfortable working in the context of an active and worshipping church community, and in attending church events. They would need to be in sympathy with and comfortable promoting our mission, vision, aims and values.

The designer would have experience designing digital and physical assets to a high standard in a similar field, as well as an excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite with the ability to assist others with this, as required.

The candidate would need to be living and working in London, and would be able to work in-person with us in Hackney Central as required.

They would also be able to work flexibly according to the demands of the role and be able to work with a wide range of people, external stakeholders, and to maintain positive and productive working relationships.

Desirable (but not required)

  • Experience working in a similar role for another major church, brand or public venue.
  • Experience managing websites, preferably using a WordPress platform.
  • To have experience using MailChimp in a professional context, and creating templates for this platform.
  • Experience in After Effects is preferred but not required.
