Hato Press - Team Member (Part-Time: 1-2 Days a Week, 5-13 Hours a Week)

Overview & Background:

Hato Press is seeking a new member to join our team located on Goswell Road, London. This part-time position involves working 1-2 days a week, with the potential for additional days. We are looking for a driven individual who can work both independently and as part of a team, takes pride in the store’s appearance and products, and consistently provides excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in the creative sector, retail, design, and publishing.

About Hato Press:

Hato Press is a publishing house and store that collaborates with artists, brands, and makers to produce books, printed goods, clothing, and lifestyle items. Founded in 2009 with a love of play and learning through making, Hato Press began with a printing press as a means to experiment with design and production. Known for its early works in Riso printing, Hato Press has evolved through a curiosity for production and design, now expressing itself through various mediums and materials.

Role:

You will be the first point of contact for visitors and customers at the store. Each team member is regarded as the shopkeeper for the day, responsible for maintaining a confident and calm demeanour while taking ownership of the store’s appearance and the products we sell. The chosen candidate will assist visitors by providing knowledge and understanding of Hato’s products and collaborations, as well as information about the wider Hato brand, including Hato Press and Studio.

Development & Training:

You will undergo store training that includes day-to-day operations, product training, and building knowledge about the artists and designers we work with. Training on the background and history of Riso printing will also be provided to help you explain the process to customers.

Responsibilities:

• Opening and closing the store
• Cleaning and maintaining stock to an impeccable standard
• Maintaining a confident and professional attitude
• Assisting with online order fulfilment, packing orders, and customer emails
• Communicating with and assisting the store manager and wider team regarding stock levels and deliveries
• Assisting customers with questions about Hato Press and the wider brand
• Maintaining a high standard of presentation and service in the store at all times
• Acting as the point of contact for enquiries about the Hato brand, including Hato Press and Studio

• Ability to maintain a calm and confident demeanour at all times
• Works well individually and as part of a team, and excels in a multi-tasking environment
• Highly motivated and capable of working independently
• Positive and solution-oriented attitude
• Ability to prioritise important tasks under pressure
• Interest in and understanding of the design and creative industries
• Experience in retail and boutique stores is highly valued
