Job description
In this role, you'll be on the frontlines of history, documenting major events, frontline operational activity, capturing and editing powerful moments that showcase the people and the stories behind the Home Office’s work. One day, you might be filming the Home Secretary meeting world leaders, the next, capturing Border Force teams as they intercept illegal smuggling attempts.
The Social Media Team is part of the Home Office’s Communication team and is at the forefront of communicating how the department’s work impacts the lives of people throughout the United Kingdom. You will be reporting to a Senior Content Creator and working alongside other digital creatives and strategists.
This role offers a multi-talented videographer-editor an exciting new challenge in a fast-paced environment, capturing content with the likes of the police, Immigration Enforcement, Border Force as well as some of the UK’s biggest influencers, content creators and digital media.
Your content will be seen by millions on Home Office social media channels, with a combined following of over 1.8 million, as well as by millions through partnerships with external influencers and media.
Key Responsibilities
- Videography: Capture high-quality video footage of Ministerial events (both domestic and abroad), operational teams, and public engagement activities.
- Content Production: Plan, shoot, and edit engaging video content for Home Office social media channels, ensuring it aligns with strategic priorities and audience needs.
- Creative Storytelling: Develop compelling visual narratives that highlight the impact of Home Office policies and frontline work, from short-form reels to long-form YouTube videos.
- Editing & Post-Production: Use Adobe Premiere Pro to enhance video, including colour correction and audio mixing, working on products varying from 60 second Reels to mini-documentaries.
- Rapid Response Content: React quickly to breaking news and department priorities, producing high-quality content under tight deadlines.
- Social Media Optimisation: Ensure all content is tailored for different platforms (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn), maintaining brand consistency and optimising for engagement.
- Content Innovation: Stay up to date with the latest social media trends and video styles, ensuring Home Office content remains fresh and impactful.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with internal teams, frontline staff, and external partners to ensure content aligns with the department’s messaging and objectives.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required 1-2 times per week, which may sometimes include overnight stays. Any associated costs will be reimbursed in line with Home Office policy.
Person specification
Essential Criteria
- Strong professional experience in video editing, ideally within a social-first, media or government environment.
- Skilled in Adobe Premiere Pro, with knowledge of colour correction, sound design and motion transitions.
- Confident in filming using mirrorless cameras, with an understanding of framing, focus, and audio setup.
- Strong storytelling instincts, particularly for interview-based or narrative-led content.
- Understanding of how to edit for social media, tailoring content for different platforms.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and deliver at pace.
- Creative and innovative mindset, with a drive to continually improve the quality of output.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of making content in After Effects, Photoshop or other Adobe Creative Cloud tools.
- Experience working alongside creators, influencers, or public figures.

- Successful candidates will be eligible for a Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) of up to £2,300 annually.
