THE ROLE
Notion have an opportunity for an experienced and commercially minded Digital Designer to join our company to work with our editorial team on all creative (mainly digital) output. This position is instrumental in delivering our overall visual identity moving forwards; and is a rare opportunity to continually elevate the brand as a modern popular culture powerhouse in the digital space, in line with the competition.
The ideal candidate will be fluent in conception and collaborating and have mastered the art of visual design for various digital platforms. You will have strong design skills and proven experience across organic and paid social, CMS/website platforms, email marketing, alongside advertising and third party branded content published across our platforms. You will have a portfolio packed full of excellent typography and layout skills, coupled with a great eye and understanding of developing and creating highly engaging content – from still photography all the way through to video and animation. You’ll also have a great understanding of the visual creation of impressive internal documents (proposals, PDFs, brand decks), and an insight to what brand’s love to see, coupled with solid writing and proof-reading abilities.
Proactive and collaborative, you’ll be a designer with an innate sense for storytelling and an understanding for how to bring editorial and brand narratives to life across a range of touch points - including pictures, adverts, videos, animations or similar. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with the wider team (editorial & content) and other departments within the business (commercial) on a huge variety of creative projects, from organic editorial content across digital, social (and print when required) with the some of the most pioneering of artists, talent and influencers; to integrated brand campaigns with the world’s most exciting brands.
MAIN DUTIES
Overall
You will be a maker and storyteller who uses design to bring our teams ideas to life across our owned digital media platforms – both editorially and on branded content. The Junior Digital Designer will play an integral part of creating the visual tone and identity through a digital and social content lens, by approaching each project with a savvy and innovative mindset.
Design
- Produce visually compelling assets and content for on-platform (such as social media posts, emails, digital assets including websites (CMS) and apps, blog assets, animations, etc.), for internal commercial decks and client (brands) requirements, and for brand partnership and commercial campaign content. The ability to work across and edit stills, pictures, videos and animations are essential.
- Adjust and deliver considered designs for all editorial content that responds to all devices across mobile, tablet and desktop, demonstrating a user centric approach.
- Amend content to specific social media channels, with a good understanding of dimensions and what content specifications work best on different platforms: Instagram vs Facebook vs Twitter.
- Work across all aspects of the design process, including the translation and application of all brand guidelines and operating principles.
Production
- Work closely with the Digital Editor, to add visual and creative input to content concepts during the pre-production phase and be the point of contact for all post-production creative and design requirements.
- Be as happy to be hands on in creative production including regularly attending shoots, content creation days, events, meetings, etc., when required.
Research & Insight
- Be aware and on top of competitor activity, suggesting new design concepts and ideas for our business, as well as key market trends.
Support
- Support on executing our digital editorial plan, including but not limited to social media posts and website content.
- Enthusiastically provide support with any additional design-related requests that may come from the wider team and collaborate with the wider team to ensure all visual assets are consistent with created brand guidelines.
- Be happy to contribute to other brand extensions as needed and required.
Networking
- Maintain a strong network with relevant and key contacts in the industry.
- Act as an effective brand ambassador for the brand in the market – both at shoots, content creation days and organised and external events.
- Have your finger on the pulse of our industry; use your professional contacts and social media channels to be the first to identify the next big opportunity.
REQUIREMENTS
- 2+ years’ experience designing for social/digital at an integrated creative and/or media agency, brand or studio.
- Relevant design qualifications.
- Pixel perfect attention to detail, executing projects across digital and social channels from concept to completion.
- Proven knowledge using digital design tools, such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro and After Effects – the ability to work across and professionally edit stills, pictures, videos and aminations are essential.
- Excellent typographic, layout and visual sensibility as demonstrated within a portfolio of work.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple digital design projects simultaneously within a fast-paced environment.
- Experience identifying cultural trends and driving design-led ideas for social platforms.
- Deep understanding of all social media platforms and their design capabilities.
- Ability to create and deliver to tight deadlines. Attention to detail to be able to identify any foreseen delays.
- Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Experience of WordPress, computer packages (Google For Business, Microsoft), social media, analytics and other digital tools is a welcome bonus.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and creative, ‘out of the box’ thinker, with excellent problem-solving skills.
