Job Description

Overview:

Mother is one of the world’s most respected, independent creative companies. We started around one table with three people, all of whom shared the washing up. 25 years on, Mother has offices in London New York, Los Angeles and Shanghai. From fast moving retailers and brands with global scale, to local jewels with local needs; we create ideas that are embraced by popular culture and deliver more powerfully as a result. Our ambition is to be a destination for the most creative minds in the world.

Your role in this will be as New Business Executive, reporting into the Senior New Business Manager and the Head of New Business. You will be the driving force of the new business team, not just making stuff happen, but at every point ensuring that our output is the very best it can be.

The key skills, knowledge and experience required for the role:

• Strong understanding of the Creative Advertising process, ideally gained through practical experience in an agency

• Some experience working with / servicing clients (ideally consumer brands)

• Excellent writing skills and attention to detail

• A keen interest in strategic and creative thinking and what makes good work. It’s only through this that we can deliver new business at its best, to properly interrogate what clients we should be partnering with

• A ‘can do’ approach: new business is fast-moving and multi-faceted; we’re all about making stuff happen!

• Highly organised and quick to respond to deadlines and the timescales set by prospective clients

• Excellent time management skills and an ability to turn projects round at speed and to a high standard. You will be working on multiple projects at the same time.

• A keen interest in new business - the industry landscape and developing your knowledge of best practice and approaches.

The key responsibilities will be:

Incoming New Business:

• You will be responsible for pulling together ‘Get Smart’ documents - everything the team needs to know about a client and the clients themselves so we feel fully prepped before meeting clients for the first time.

• You’ll act as a central point of coordination for RFIs & support the team in the creation of RFI materials

• You’ll act as a central point of coordination for chemistry meetings, working to pull these together

• You’ll support pitch teams to ensure smooth and efficient process, and like everyone at Mother we’ll ask that you’re prepared, on occasion, to follow through as part of a pitch

• From time to time, you will work with the Mother offices around the world on London-led global opportunities (we have offices in London, New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Singapore)

Showing Mother at our best

• Creation of best-in-class Mother new business materials in conjunction with the new business team

• You’ll work with strategists and our in-house studio to create case studies, films, and points of view

• You’ll work to ensure our existing new business collateral is regularly updated

• You’ll assist with the delivery of regular new business comms to key audiences, including prospects and intermediaries

• Updating our website and intermediary portals, and coordination of the various assets to keep our window to the world up to date

Outbound New Business

• We invest time and resource in a few, very targeted outbound new business projects each year, as well as ensuring we are maintaining relationships with our network of client contacts. You’ll work with the new business team on ongoing new business strategies, including the delivery of proactive and outbound activity and coming up with new, innovative and creative solutions to engage with clients

Business Development

• Assisting Business leads on key client and collateral requests to facilitate business development

Administrative

• You’ll be responsible for maintaining key status materials across new business, helping to track our performance and progress over the year.

• You’ll be responsible for meeting and client call logistics, and for overall ‘the client experience’ when people come to see us at Mother.

About our dream hire:

Great new business is a way of thinking and behaving - not just a checklist of tasks. It's about taking ownership. For the projects themselves, for learning what it takes for us to win, for understanding how to get the best from people at Mother, and for showing the best of Mother to people outside of Mother. It's about being restless enough to ensure you've thought of everything, a feeling of responsibility towards our outputs and a deep care for the detail from start to finish.

It takes a passion for knowledge and a hunger to learn. About the clients we’re talking to, their businesses, their (and our) competitors, the culture around us, the wider industry and the patterns we see. It’s about separating the useful from the interesting and knowing how to best share what's useful with the right people.

It’s about being the person others want in the room. Because you’re able to (and know how to) make things happen, because you always bring a point of view to the table, you care about the creative output, and you won’t settle for second best. You understand your own voice and the impact you can have, don't listen to reply - listen to understand, and know how to influence with storytelling and insight. But most of all, be someone that people want to work with. Be a radiator not a drain, bringing energy and enthusiasm into work every day to make everyone want you on their project.

It's about constantly looking for ways to improve the status quo, to ensure we have the best process that will take us to a better pitch experience and end result. Great New Business people are fast thinking, will bend the system to their advantage, are adaptable and seek to find new and different ways to build relationships, will ensure we have the skills that we need on each project, and not give up till the bell goes.

Finally, we are only going to be as strong as the team dynamic we create. It’s important we all support each other, care for each other, and constantly ask ourselves the right questions. What does this team need? How can I help make us better? And if we do that right, we will be playing our role in making Mother the most creative business in the world.
