Job description

Title: Service Designer

Reporting to: Service & Experience Design Director

1. What you will be doing

You will be working with experienced user-led design colleagues, helping clients solve complex problems, generate fresh thinking and create socially useful brands, experiences, products and services. You be expected to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and also work autonomously to deliver quality timely design outputs. You will be Coached and supported to develop your skills and take on client-facing responsibilities over time.

1.1 Service & experience design

• Contributing as a Service Designer to rolling portfolio of client projects providing input at different design stages: user research; design development; prototyping; user-testing.

• Taking a lead on specific design tasks or elements of bigger projects that are being run within the studio: taking the brief; managing all aspects of delivery.

• Designing project materials, such as workshop Miro/Mural boards, printouts such as Journey Maps, Personas etc., presentations and other design artefacts, working closely.

• Assisting with client and project management including meetings, timelines, budgets and administration.

1.2 Coaching & training

• Contributing to the development and delivery of courses run by Design Thinkers Academy London.

• Working with the Design Director and our in-house training team to create and update materials and content for our courses such as Mural/Miro boards and physical tools

• Attending courses and in-house trainings to stay at the forefront of service design and related practice and to play a full part in our “do & teach” culture.

1.3 Design development

• Contribute fully to the growth and development of DK&A. This may include working on internal projects relating to strategy, marketing, business development, or other areas as required.

2. Skills & experience

This role will suit a recent graduate with between 1 and 3 years design professional practice.

2.1 Essential

• A Degree or Masters (preferable) in service design, experience design, interaction design, industrial design, or similar related studies

• Proven ability to shape design briefs with clients or internal consultants

• Proven ability to conceive and run design research projects (ethnography, user research etc)

• Experience of contributing meaningfully as a designer to design projects and workshops for commercial clients

• Good written skills and the ability to create clear, concise, well-structured reports in a reasonable time frame

• Excellent verbal communication skills and the confidence to contribute to meetings and workshops

• Experience in using Adobe Creative Suite to design and build research, pitches, proposals and reports in accordance with our company brands

• Experience in developing prototypes: physical such as prototypes and role play; and digital such as clickable prototypes made on platforms like Figma

• Proven ability to design and facilitate in Miro/Mural or other equivalent software

• Fluent written and spoken English

2.2 Desirable

• Knowledge of Systems Thinking, Agile, Lean Start Up and other innovation methodologies and frameworks

• Experience of managing budgets and successfully maintaining profitability for some of your own projects

• Interest and experience in social justice and environmental sustainability

3. Remuneration & benefits

This is a full-time role with an annual salary between £30,000 - £35,000 based on experience. Benefits include:

• Flexitime core studio hours 10:00 – 16:00 Monday – Friday

• 37.5-hour work week

• Hybrid work: minimum of 2 days in studio, up to 3 days remote

• 25 days of paid annual leave

• The studio closes between Christmas and New Year and these days are additional paid leave, on top of the 25 days annual leave and 8 Bank holidays

4. Location

Hybrid work, allowing you to work remotely for up to 3 days per week.

Two days a week you will be working with the rest of the team at our studio in London SW18 5JS, United Kingdom. The space is modern, attractive, and light with good facilities including a shower, bike parking, shared meeting rooms and communal kitchen.
