Junior Graphic Designer

The V&A Design Studio is looking for a talented, passionate and imaginative junior designer to join our team.

The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance and our small design studio has a portfolio of exciting projects including blockbuster exhibitions, temporary gallery displays and more. In this role you will have the chance to design a wide range of design projects across the entire museum from major exhibitions and major marketing campaigns to children’s activity packs.

It is a fast-paced studio and the design team is collaborative and hands-on, working iteratively with curators, colleagues and collaborators to create an outstanding experience for local and international audiences.

The designer will happily balance a range of projects – splitting their time between working alongside Senior designers on major projects whilst also taking on small projects of their own. Projects might range from: the design of a temporary displays; creating environmental graphics or contextual imagery for an exhibition; creating social media assets for our monthly Friday Late events, typesetting labels or making signage. In addition to projects we’re looking for a team member who’ll want to contribute ideas, participate in crits and push design forward within the team.

The ideal person will be someone who has:

1. Exceptional conceptual thinking, curiousity and an abundance of design ideas and the ability to visualise and communicate ideas

2. The ability to take a design creative from concept to delivery – ideally including environmental print and campaign design).

3. Experience creating great proposals for projects, including mock-ups, pitch and presentation material.

4. Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering a broad range of output, ideally within a studio or agency environment

5. Excellent Adobe CC skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign are essential, After Effects/Premiere a bonus).

6. Experience working with client feedback, practical requirements and production awareness to progress ideas from concept through development to final sign-offs.

7. A love of print and digital with knowledge of print production process, different types of production and materials in order to liaise with our in-house team and external printers. (knowledge and experience of exhibition, display and large format print and signage would be advantageous.

8. The ability to work with both speed and accuracy across multiple simultaneous projects under strict deadlines

9. Excellent communication skills to maintain good relationships with our range of internal clients, the design studio and print unit
