Job Description
Hato Press is looking for a Publisher to lead its projects and publishing. You should be someone who has a strong understanding and background in independent publishing as well as a keen interest in printed matter within the arts, lifestyle and design sectors.
Hato Press was established in 2009 with the idea to disseminate content and create a space in which its collaborators, friends and peers could develop projects and ideas through print. Over the past decade it has evolved into a publishing house and brand with key projects such as Cooking with Scorsese and Other’s series, Studio Cookbook and the Hato Press Zine Series which launches a new edition with artists, photographers illustrators and more each month.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of projects, seeking out and establishing new connections with potential artists, brands and collaborators and opportunities as well as managing the social media, website and digital communications.
The role will be part time, 2-3 days per week. Salary subject to experience. Blended working from our studio in Golden Lane Estate, Barbican.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily runnings of the publishing house including emails, organising production and project communications between teams
- Manage and maintain wholesale relationships with Distributors and stockists world wide.
- To seek out and propose new publishing and project opportunities that are relevant to Hato Press’ brand and messaging.
- Manage and maintain professional and welcoming relationship with existing and new collaborators and artists within the HP network.
- Maintain a strong knowledge and connections within the independent publishing world, have a good understanding of how arts, fashion, design etc can merge to create interesting and powerful content.
- Managing the production of books and projects from commissioning through to delivery
- Coordinate with authors and internal design and production staff to ensure the completion of projects on time and within the project budget
- Monitor project schedule and budget, through project life cycle
- Organise launches of key books and zines at our concept space in Goswell Road
Required Skills:
- Project Management and Excellent Organisational Skills
- Experience in publishing and a strong knowledge of independent publishing and print
- Knowledge and experience within either design, fashion or lifestyle brands/organisations
- Active and current knowledge of cultural sectors from the arts through to fashion and design.
Not Essential but Desired:
- Understanding or knowledge of Risograph printing
- Basic knowledge of Adobe CC Suite
