The senior strategist plays a pivotal role as the lead strategic brand thinker on a project — often more than one at the same time. The role involves working closely with the design team and our clients to join-the-dots, hold the strategic thread, guide ideas, facilitate discussion, and inspire creativity. Always collaborating in an open and positive spirit.

The role in a nutshell

This role is about being the lead strategic mind on a project, responsible for defining the key strategic elements of a brand, and holding the strategic thread on a project — collaborating, guiding, and inspiring the creative team and our clients.

You’ll work directly with the strategy director, while nurturing the development of less experienced strategists, to help them grow and develop.

Duties & responsibilities

The role focuses on five overarching areas:

  • Research Carry out meaningful primary and secondary research with rigor and flexibility
  • Facilitation Design and facilitate engaging workshops to aid engagement, gather opinion, or build consensus
  • Analysis Summarise research into usable, understandable insights and recommendations
  • Thinking Join the dots to develop simple, clear, compelling, and creative brand strategies
  • Writing Articulate insights, ideas, and messages using simple, understandable compelling language

Strategy

  • Be able to lead and define all the elements of a brand strategy
  • Be able to construct concise compelling arguments with imagination and clear rationale
  • Help clients imagine new possibilities for the brand by drawing on relevant examples
  • Be naturally persuasive in all situations and help clients take risks
  • Have a strong holistic understanding of the dynamics of modern businesses, how they work, and what makes them succeed
  • Be interested and tuned in to the world at large in terms of society, art, creativity, culture, and technology
  • Be a source of new, unconventional, and creative thinking to inspire our team and work

Process

  • Be comfortable working with MultiAdaptor’s strategic tools, frameworks, and processes, but keen to introduce a few of your own and develop new ways to think
  • Be confident working on your own and as part of a team
  • Be very well organized, an excellent planner, and a clear holder of the big picture
  • Understand the commercial imperatives of a design business

Communication

  • Be an engaging presenter
  • Have excellent writing skills
  • Create well designed, logical, and imaginative presentations

Leadership

  • Take responsibility for the strategic outcomes on a branding project setting it up for the best possible success
  • Support the growth of less experienced strategists and nurture their growth through guidance and coaching
  • Actively champion the role of strategy inside MultiAdaptor and with clients

Your experience

  • 5-7 years experience within a brand or advertising agency
  • Currently holds a strategic role, looking for an opportunity to step-up and shine
  • Hands-on experience defining brand strategies for a range of clients
  • We’re interested in candidates from both design and non-design backgrounds
