Mid-level Multi-Discipline Designer Role
Job Description
The Economist is a global news company covering international business and world affairs, first published in 1843. We deliver our content through a wide range of formats from the magazine, a website and mobile app, film and audio.
We’re looking to hire a multi-discipline design role in our editorial offices in central London.
The editorial graphics team comprises creative designers for both print and digital channels as well as picture editors. We are looking for someone who will primarily work on the print and layout side which involves artwork commissioning and helping to manage the pages each week through to production. The graphics team works closely with editors, picture editors as well as digital product and social media teams. You’ll be hands-on with work on our flagship product, the magazine, as well as considerations for the website, the daily app, newsletters and social media channels.
You should also demonstrate a keenness to learn how to get the most from a modern editorial production system. Recognise how the content requirements change to be displayed differently for the page or a digital channel using an efficient process to achieve our tight deadlines. We will be looking for someone with a strong interest in design, good communication, an attention to detail, operational efficiency with a healthy respect for deadlines.

Self-motivated team player with the ability to perform well under pressure
Relevant experience in a similar environment
Experience of (or interest in) working with an editorial product
An interest in global politics and current affairs
Friendly and receptive demeanour
A design degree or equivalent qualification
Good communication skills and fluency in English
The right to live and work in the UK
Hours: Primarily 10am-6pm - Monday-Friday with some press day variations and the possibility of some weekend overtime.
